That looks really nice man! Are you sure that you've never built one before ;). Is that the APEX in the lower right hand corner?

Thanks Rick. Yeah, thats the APEX. So far I'm loving it. First controller I've ever had and I had it hooked up and programming it from my computer within minutes and sending alarm texts to my phone. The only thing I don't have hooked up to it right now is my float switches.

Josh your doing great man. You should have a killer reef in no time the way your doing everything else. Best of luck.

Thanks man. Hopefully I can get in on one of your orders pretty soon. I actually already moved that stag I got from you at the swap into this tank.

I saw the Josh tank today. Absolutly beautiful. If you want to see real craftsmanship make a trip to tullahoma.

great job josh!

The more often I see VHO lights the more I like them, very sexy hood! I know pickup man ran 4 vho's on his 75 with great color. So how do VHO's compare to T5's? Are you running reflectors with your VHO's?

With the advent of T5HO's the VHO bulb has pretty much been abandoned by most as the T5 is newer technology and more effecient and better par for the money. (I think, But I could be wrong) But more T5's are now used than VHO for sure. There also may be a power factor involved also as they are old tech. JMHO...

T5's are newer and smaller, but also hotter. T5's are still in the "VHO" catagory, but T12's are being less used as Bill said. T5's have better Par/wattage ratio, but that increases the heat, mostly with overdriven ballast like icecaps. Personally I still use T12's and like them. The actinic colors just seem better to me with T12 than the T5 version. just my opinion. Everyone likes each for different reasons. Both will grow corals. Here are some wattage specs of both.

24" T12 VHO 75w
24" T5 VHO 24w

48" T12 VHO 110w
48" T5 VHO 54w

I use the VHO's only for actinics. I am using URI super actinic bulbs which have internal reflectors so its a pretty simple setup. If I was going away from halides altogether I would probably look into T5's but I'm pretty happy with the lumenbrights and radium combination at the moment.
