A Major Thank You

Last night's raffle was by far the biggest and best we have ever had. The LFS and others were asked to help us out and they responded by absolutely mind blowing donations. We really need to understand as a club that they do this not just for advertisements but because they support us as hobbyists. They too love the hobby and their donations really showed their generosity.

Kalypso Aquatics- If you have not been to Kalypso yet and live in the South side of town, they are located in Lodi and have quite a lot of nice things for being new. They always have cheap zoanthids and have many frag tanks full of colorful goodies for prices that can hidden from the wife. Thank You sincerely for the wonderful donations of mixed dry goods.

CRS- One of the nicest and prettiest stores in Sacramento (Carmichael) Owners Brian and Jamie are two of the nicest people in the hobby and besides being my persoanl biggest crack...err I mean reef sellers they are my friends. They have as many or more tanks full of fish and corals as any other store in the area. They always have great frag tanks full of great stuff for as little as 10 bucks yet can always accomodate for those looking for some truly breath taking pieces. With free RODI water and very low prices on ordered hardware this store is a must stop! Thank you for the donation of the wonderful fish and corals! I really appreciate that you have been so helpful from day one.

O st and Aquaworkz- Peggy is one of the nicest people in town. Ost has long been a great and exciting LFS. From the large shark tanks to the never ending mating pair of Black percs there is always something to see at this great store. I also noticed that at Aquaworkz they had some STUPID PRICES on tanks.(IE 90 gallon RR with stand for 3something) WHAT A DEAL!!!! Thanks you for the donation of the gift certificate.

Exotic- The Megamall of Saltwater stores. Exotic has it. What is it you ask? I don't know really but if it has to do with an aquarium exotic has it and they have it for cheap. This store has huge tanks of fish, corals, and dry goods. They also are now planning on carrying more SPS fragsand say they are getting a shipment you MUST see on wednesday the 26th. Thanks for the $100 gift certificate, Mark will be in to see you soon :)

Your Reef- I find it humerous that John's store is just like his tanks. A small space PACKED to the brim with amazing corals. John is a continuos certainty and sure bet if you are looking for sweet high end SPS or hard to find LPS. He personally makes his own trips to the wholesalers and hand picks his corals so that you can always count on him having the very best His prices are fair and he even tollerates MARS members. Thanks you for the donation of all of the beautiful corals.

Jojo's Aquarium- One of the newer up and coming stores in South Sac, JoJo's is a place where good deals can be found on all kinds of different corals. They are very competetive on dry goods as well, and are very friendly and accomodating. They plan on having their SPS display up and running by the beginning of februaury and have a few select SPS right now. Thank you for the very large donation of Frozen food.

Fish Planet- HOLY HELL that place is big  I used to walk in there and say to myself if they ever converted all of these cool tanks to saltwater, this place would be crazy! Well, I was there yesterday and.. well.. the place is going crazy. All of the sudden there were all kinds of new HUGE tanks for corals and fish. They also had an Aussie shipment that had some pieces that were just plain nuts. I have been told that they are now decking out their SPS section as well. Matt is turning that place into a MUST STOP!! The sharks are cool as well, BTRF are so beautiful and I love seeing three of them swim in that large a place. BTW- Fish Planet has tanks for so cheap I was looking for defects because I couldn't believe the price was right. A MILLION THANKS FOR THE 24 GALLON WITH METAL HALIDE AQUAPOD. That goes beyond generous and is really appreciated by each and everyone us.

Gresham and Reef Nutrition- Awesome products, Awesome prices, Awesome guy. These prizes make the raffle so much cooler IMO and we can't thank you enough Gresh!!!!

Keith Grandt- What an amazing Starfire Glass Nano you built us. That tank was flat out gorgoeus. I truly saw by your seams and work that you are an expert in your field and would reccomend your work to anyone. THIS IS CLEARLY THE GUY TO SEE IF YOU WANT A TOP OF THE LINE GLASS TANK!!!! What a great supportrer of the club you have been. It is a pleasure to have you for a member.

That about sums it up. Our LFS are not just stores but they are our friends. Please tell them you are with MARS when you shop even if you do not want a discount, just so they know we support them. The best part of my job as PRO is getting to hang out and chat with everyone when I make my rounds. As a whole we have really evolved lately and are making great progress towards having a club that is active, fun, and educational. The support we get from our neighbors in the hobby are a large part of our success.

- Paul

A personal thanks to Tim at Exotic and Mike at JoJo Aquarium for the donations. It was my first run asking for donations in the south area, helping Paul out and I was very pleased to come to the raffle with these nice gifts.

LFS really out did themselves. great raffle, great reefers.

Thanks to all the shops Paul mentioned and those that will soon get to know Paul

Yep.

KMP'n'I did a mini-royal-tour today and we stopped, spent money, and paid thanks to both "Ocean Treasures" in SF and "Under Water Paradise" in Marysville.

Nice work to both donors and solicitors alike. This helps us all. Keep up the good work and positive vibes. I like to think the dark side will perish if we keep this up.

John and I hit up CRS and Your Reef today, which is a major trek from the southland...

Lots of nice stuff. I think we both overspent, or at least I did, ordering that vor tech from YR.

Went to your reef also. Great stuff and i finally had to break down and have John frag me a piece of Atlantis blueberry with rasberry tip mille

'twas loads of fun! I am looking forward to a new year with many more great events to reach out to our public and show them a little more on what we are all about.

I know this often goes unsaid, but I wanted to thank...YOU, our members. Our members really is what makes MARS a great thing to be a part of. Sure we may not all agree all the time, but I can honestly say that I think most of us stand behind each other as a community and help any way we can. This is what makes MARS great, and this is what makes our LFS want to support us - and us them. It is what keeps me going sometimes, and I am always impressed on the generosity from our members.

Keep that in mind as we approach another great year, you are not only in MARS for you - but for everyone else around you who get support from you just being a part of the same affliction that binds us. Looking forward to seeing ya'll at the meetings and upcoming events.

Happy Holidays! Now go treat yourself to a frag or two. :D
