a miracle delivery... need advice

beautiful yes ,amazing yes as it was a good upgrade that you have made .how long do you think it will be before its up and running . i'm just wondering if you sleeping or plumbing tonite ? i think it would be full of water tonite or at least by 2am this morning if it was mine . also whan i say running im talking full of juice without any livestock as that will take a minute as you very well know .stocking plans ?do tell.

My day is complete now. here's my thought....leather benches all the way around, with a 2ft space for entering and exiting on either side. And i tell ya what....my TV would be at the curb.
yup i was thinking something similar with wrap around modular benches, the rear of the tank offer very little viewing, if so the tank will have to place near the back wall,

ok, you win. because i'd hate to miss Blue Planet.......good point. but nevertheless.....THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL TANK!
blue planet rocks! thank you for the compliment! :)

thanks for the kind words dave, i dont think i will have water in this tank for while, hopefully soon after i frame out the basement fish room and floor support, i wish i can put water in sooner to check for leaks and failures...

my wife has started her list of fish, it included an angeler.... yikes! i told her she is crazy, she laughed, then started to do the angler motion. she wants a bubble tip island, and i want a fire fish hotel :)

been playing with the mp40s and flow, here what i came up with:

my version of nutrient export... two mp40s up front,

here what it looks like from a distance, suprising the mp40s does not have that much magnetic attraction being 3/4" apart, well see how it goes...

mounted on the rear...

let me know what you guys/gals think about the mp40s on the bottom of the tank... think its going to work?

at first, i thought just bare bottom, and now, probably very little sand, i am thinking the mp40 will blow them away where they can settle elsewhere..

Awesome tank SolRNY.

I think 3/4"thick glass is the max the Vortechs are designed for, and your extra acryllic bottom makes it even thicker. Also, the motor end is heavy and designed to be vertical on the tank. Having it upside down makes gravity more of a factor in pulling them off the tank. I think your best bet is to put them on the back.

Was there something wrong with the first tank from Miracles?

The bottom location isn't good.
In this aquarium I would place the MP40's to the left and right of the overflow somewhere in the BOTTOM half of the back glass. Water flowing away from the overflow on the bottom glass will create flow to move towards the overflow at the surface.

FWIW: my Vortech moves water so well in this fashion that fish excrement at the far side (opposite the Vortech) actually travels UPWARDS and back across the water's surface to the overflow. (Note that penductors in my aquarium assist in creating the gyre.)

That is one sharp looking tank and stand. Great job.

I would have to agree that the power heads are not gonna work on the floor. Even if they don't fall off and you can keep sand away, its not gonna give you the right flow. Although to have the flow "right" you might want to wait to have rock in the tank and where some of the corals will go to figure out the actual location of the pumps

looks great! congrats!
thanks pascal! hows your new tank coming along? its getting exciting :)

thanks randy!

sorry i forgot to mention that only the bottom pane is 5/8" tempered, i took into account the 3/4" limitation of the vortechs so i had the bottom pane made 5/8" tempered + 1/8" bottom acrylic sheet, so i figure the dimension should probably work, i might end up replacing the black rubber piece that sit between the mp40 dryside with something even thinner,

yeah it surprized me that there was alot less magnetic attraction mounting it upside down, i might end up strapping them up with some sort of fish netting, if i end up using them this way, not sure...

the first tank had alot of silcon issues at the seems, lots of bubble lines, i am confused to what is the perfect silcon job, it seems Miracles built the current tank differently... much appreicated if you can describe the silcon job on your many Miracle purchases :)

placing them on the left and right side was my original thought, but being on the BOTTOM half is even better for the flow action you described, which is what i would like to happen, the only thing is it wont allow me to hide the cabling and the dry side pertrusion, i am hoping with all these mounting configuration i achieve both asthetics and funtion

thanks for the compliments! :) i think your right, without the rock structure its hard to tell, hopefully the options will let me adjust easier

thanks so much for all your advices its much appreicated, for me flow is difficult, as i am learning in my current 30gal setup some of the sps are bending downward due to flow, and i think most are retarded by this-maybe my lack of maintenance

i still have a 2 more flow configuration i would like to share, and get your thoughts on them :)

is this aquarium to be placed with one side against a wall or will it remain an island?
we were debating rather we should move it closer to the back wall and have a wrap around bench... being in the middle, the back of the tank is pretty much useless due to the overly massive overflow(gawd), and it provides less room for walk arounds, but i think well just leave it as an island :)

oh yes! i vote island!!! i vote island!!! entrance to wrap around bench at the back....get your tickets now.....

looking good keep up the good work.
Mojo~
thanks, hopefully its comes outs similar to your own awesome build!

Wow very nice. I love the island thought. Do you have electrical run yet, or is that after you decide placement?
thanks very much for the compilment :)

running the electrical for the pumps and plumbing for a island is the part the worries me the most, becuase i would have to cut 3 holes into the middle of the room thru the hardwood, what is uneasy is that i dont know how hard it is to replace hardwood pieces that are in the middle of the floor, since it tounge and groove i figure the whole half of the floor will have to come out, i will ask my contractor when he comes over next time...

the tank being closer to the rear is much easir as suggested in another build thread to install a floor vent, then run everything thru there, i am not sure, but as of now i havent ran any electrical,

i took some picture of the overflow, it is simple but boy did it take me a while to design it, i am hoping it will work out:

just like the last tank, this overflow is gawdly supersized... couldnt make it smaller :( becuase this tank is larger now it looks kinda smaller that way:)

the height is 1.5" below the rimm, hopefully it will give me a tiny wave with the mp40s, it also has no slots, being with no slots there should be a different effect when water falls over (or fish) looking at my eye level,
image.aspx

top view, there are 4x 1" holes, 1 primary drain, 1 "oh sshhiiiittt*" drain, 1 return, and 1 dry, there is also a dry box to my design,

here a pic from the side where the mp40s are installed in the dry box:

here a pic from the front,
the ideal was to hide all the cabling and as much plumbing as possible from view,

Wow Lang, the setup looks phenominal. Hopefully with the weather getting nicer I'll soon make my rounds in Syracuse and check the tank out in person! :D

If the hole you cut is centered in the room, cutting the actual flooring 12"x 12" and cut the access hole smaller than the outside flooring cut. This allows a medallion inlay of your choosing if you ever move the tank.[After repairing the underlay of course].

like this

This would look cool
