Oh man, that sucks bro. Nothing like losing a fish to an overflow. What you can do is put a short PVC coupling in the drain side so if it happens again, the fish will have some water to swim in.;)

I'm embarassed to say I lost a true perc, yellow watchman and purple queen anthias to my drain and filter sock. I had a standpipe drain and at one point had some nylon mesh in there to prevent losses - took it out cause it kep clogging with cyano. So I got rid of that and put the filter sock at the end of the drain. The anthias and clown I could see swimming up that high - but I question why the goby was all the way up there???

Hey Bobby!!!! how goes it?

well, he had water......just no room to swim....the other guy stayed in the first part of the compartment....so he was alright overnight

you should try using the black plastic gutter guard screen the sell in HD for your overflow. the holes are large to prevent most clogs and it keeps the fish out..
I might have a few feet of it, if you want I look and bring it to the next meeting?

Chuck- thats my plan exactly. I'm in there all teh time, I'll just grab some next time, I'll need more anyway for future expansion plans. Thanks for the offer though. PS- you want to complete our purchase? Wait? Up to you - I'm up for anything...

well, i could do that, and that's a good idea....but ...even better, the overflow on my 55rr has smaller holes..and that can fix the problem also.....hmmmmm....weekend project?

also, anyone interested in putting together an ORA order? i need new fish!

Chris, I was in Macy's today, they're having a sale on "a life" all day.
I hope you got a few for your self ;)

thanks thanks :)

i'm in a very bad mood...
only found 1 princess so far today...
but I did find the head of one or 2 in my GIANT emerald crabs mouth

still working on catching the culprit...
ughh :(
live and learn...

Place a small piece of food in a glass jar, lean it against a rock for him to get in. Once he falls in he's all yours.

So how do you catch a very smart very large emerald crab ?

Just like bobbing for apples - except with crabs, it'll never expect that...

Octavio,
This coming from a guy that has to go to PA to win a photo prize of a starfish. You obviously missed the sale. And then Chris, the Roomba king.

Liana, a glass jar, maybe the size of a jelly jar would work.

right before the lights go out, tie a large piece of food to a rock and put it in the jar. Place the jar where you think the crab is. It should be there in the morning. It'll get in, but not out. Just be sure to position the jar so the crab can get in it easily. Don't use plastic.

Jar it is then...

I swear it's him-

The remaining princess has frayed fins that look like he took a snap.

When the go to "sleep" at night I bet he grabs 'em...they're so tiny, and he's so big.

Whatever.

Frayed fins, not a good sign. Might be from stress.
What are your param in the tank? Is your ph stable? With these crabs, if the fish were close enough to get grabbed (even a little bit) they would most likely be crab food. It's not unlikely that the crab is eating them, but it might not be what's killing them.
Test your alk, if it's not at 3.5 or higher, you might get dips in your ph at night. That would certainly cause stress on your little fish.
Do you run a refugium with reverse photoperiod? that would also help keep your ph stable.;)
