A new arrival

Thank you ;) I need to update it tho, the little girl is not part of the family now (Messy divorce) and we have 3 more. *note to self fix pic* I"ve been lurking forever, if you can't tell from post count.

Soon my dust bucket will have critters in it though.

Cardinalfish fry are getting pretty big. They love to eat adult live brine shrimp. They stubbornly refuse to eat frozen food other than cyclopeeze at the moment although I offer those things when they are most hungry in the morning.

You can come over this week to pick up caulerpa if you'd like. If you want to see the baby fish, I must warn you that my cardinalfish is in my rather messy bed room and that you must climb over the guard dogs who also reside in my bed room.

Tomoko

I've seen your guard dogs :)

let me see if i can get a kitchen pass on saturday--i'm behind on the renovation schedule, and if i dont knock down a wall this week, i cant go out to play on the weekend...

Here's a video of my BC babies eating adult brine shrimp. As you can see that they are eating something almost as big as themselves :eek2:

That is so cool!! Thanks for sharing with us. The "babies" are growing up fast huh? The Brine shrimp have to fill them up fast though.

THATS AWESOME!

btw, how old are those shrimp? our first batch (maybe 10...i was a little off on the egg estimate--turns out the eggs we got were packed in salt, just dump the whole mix in FW and stir...so i have 10% of the eggs i thought, which is fine, but i barely put any in the hatchery!) are ultra-small, and its hard to see them eating...nowhere near that size, and that's the size i think my clowns and gobies would like.

Thanks, Monica and Papa_Johnny. Yes, they are growing at a good pace. I wish they eat other frozen food, too, besides Cyclopeeze. I guess I just have to be patient with them.

Tim - bbs is very small. It takes a month or more for your bbs to grow to the size you see in my video. If you want adult brine shrimp, you can get them cheap at The Aquarium Shop. You should enrich them by feeding your nannochrolopsis to your brine shrimp.

Tomoko -

Thank you for posting such an informative (and entertaining) thread. I've been thinking of raising cardinals and clownfish for some time. Reading articles and books is informative, but firsthand experience is golden - thanks for sharing your adventure!

Ken

You're welcome, Ken. I have been having a lot of fun breeding my cardinals. Although my cardinals did things differently from what books and articles said, Dr. Frank Marini's articles are quite interesting and helpful. I hope you get to breed cardinals and clownfish.

Hi Monica,

I feed a variety of frozen food to them in general.

When I condition them to spawn, I feed them the same frozen food but more often. If I see some fresh fish roe when I fillet fish for dinner, I feed that to the parents since they can use extra fat and nutrients in the roe. I also include some adult brine shrimp to encourage spawning.

I brought two cardinals this weekend. Hopefully male and female! We will see. I will buy until I get a mated pair.

Monica

Tim, all the time, no fry that i have seen, but they are at "it" all the time, feamale turns a nice grey/white color

Any luck pairing your cardinal, Monica?

Here's an update to the babies. It's still not easy to tell, but I hope you can tell how much they grew.
