A new arrival

Are they very young? Young ones school together.

I understand that two adult females will have no problem together, but an adult male will kill another male. You may have two juveniles, two females or a pair.

My young one will surely be a meal to your older ones. My pair eats a guppy any time. Although my pair does not know what to do with a ghost shrimp, other breeders feed large ghost shrimp to them.

I am interested getting some of your babies when you get rid of them. I have a 10 gal setup that does not have any fish in it at the moment. I used it in the past to let my maroon clowns grow out a little before I put them in a bigger tank. I also use it as a hospital tank.

The little guys are eating frozen brine shrimp and cyclopeeze now although very reluctantly. They are still trying to hold out for live brine, but The Aquarium Shop happens to be out of them due to a bad shipment. I am hoping to convert them to frozen food before letting them go.

I let the babies starve for a day and a half, and the majority of the babies are finally accepting a new type of frozen brine shrimp.

John at CRA gave me a few cubes of H2O Life brand brine shrimp to try on them. The defrosted cube yielded nice whole "in-tact" brine shrimp rather than broken-up bits and pieces of brine shrimp.

When I fed them to the babies a few days ago, they got fooled at the beginning with the twirling brine shrimp and some of them went for it. Then they noticed that they are not live and stopped eating them completely. They kept on refusing them all last week. They are stubborn little devils.

So I decided to let them starve a bit. I fed the little guys once on Sunday and I let them go without food Monday. When I fed them with the frozen brine this morning, they started eating them :) I hope they will eat them again this afternoon.

Lol they say you can teach a dog to eat turnip greens eventually.........

I'm sure as fat as you keep them, a day and a half will do them no harm. Sometimes Mom has to get stern with the children ;).

Haha, I am an easy push over according to my pets, although my kids will tell you otherwise.

I don't know about turnip greens, but my dogs love broccoli so much so that I cannot plant any broccoli or cabbage in my garden without barricading the seedlings with a temporary fence :(

my dogs eat anything out of any magic blue bucket (garbage can).

sassy has an affinity for carrots and potatoes.

how long do you think it will be until the kids are ready to venture out on their own? :)

Now that they are eating frozen brine shrimp and cyclopeeze, they can go as long as their new home does not have anything that can eat them. They are still pretty small.

That is wonderful Tomoko, and I bet you are a pushover for you pets and a firm Mom with kids :). I've enjoyed following these babies and your details about them. I look forward to Dads new brood.

Did you ever find an artificial urchin for your baby sitter? I know I saw one on another thread on RS before I found your thread. I can't remember if you ever mentioned finding one.

Thanks again.

Thank you, Papa-Johnny. I found some people using plastic or bamboo skewers stuck to a ball of two part epoxy like Aqua Mend. I am going to give it a try for the next batch.

I gave them some OSI brand (the ordinary) frozen brine shrimp today to see if they will eat them now. Well, they were a bit more selective, but they did in general. I saw a baby eating a large one, and a second later it started couphing up some tiny round balls. They turned out to be brine shrimp eggs :eek1:

Hi y'all,

I thought that I update this old thread with a new video clip. I found two babies in my 180 tonight. These two are the grand babies of the original pair. You can see my male clownfish tending his eggs in the background.

:) very nice Tomoko! I take it these are just "vounteers" that came into being in the tank?

Three generations, that is an awesome accomplishment also, hats off to you and your husbandry skills again.

Thank you, Papa Johnny :)

Yes, they are volunteers. This pair has been breeding in my 180 for several months now. I rarely see babies in the main tank. I rescue one or two periodically into my refugium, but I am afraid that the parents are eating the majority shortly after their release before I notice them.
