A New Blenny

Hello Everyone,
As of last night I sadly have lost my ruby red scooter blenny. I was thinking about getting a new different type of blenny but want something that would be able to do very well in my tank. I would need something that is colorful, would work in a 40g, peaceful, and would eat things such as flakes, mysis, and algae (it doesnt have to eat algae but the more it eats the better!)
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Thanks for the responses everyone! I have heard of both the starry and the Lawnmower getting kinda large. Does anyone know how big they get?

Mmm, your scooter was not a blenny: the name is a misnomer. It's really a dragonet, like a mandarin, a specialty feeder, which eats copepods (small crustaceans) in large tanks, say 100 gallons. I'm gathering by your concern about size that this is a very small tank.

The blennies named (the starry, etc) are green film algae eaters, and do need that food source, or green food provided. They also are divided into two classes, the combtooth which eat algae off glass and rocks; and the fanged, which may eat anything from algaes to coral slime. Combtooth is easier for a small tank to keep, and that class includes one of the cutest, acres of personality, and hardest to catch---the tailspot. The tailspot and starry are two who WILL get along together and have enough to eat in a 50 gallon tank, but if you have a tank under 30 gallons, I'd recommend the little tailspot solo, because he's a skinny little fellow who doesn't have the food requirement of the starry.

I have a midas, starry and lawnmower. All have great personalities, but the Midas is by far the most active. It's always in motion. Also eats everything. The starry and lawnmower only eat algae and dried seaweed.

I second the comment about the tailspot blenny. Mine was super personable and always busy looking for new hidey holes. Not that it always hid, quite the opposite, it would look for a new hole to back into and then watch the world swim by. Plus they eat algae and flakes so that's a huge bonus.

Ruby red scooter blenny is in the dragonet family and hard to keep them alive unless you have lots of copepods.. They hunt n eat all day...so they will evently die from starvation if your tank isnt big enough to support there food source...

Just curious are all 3 of those blennys in 1 65g tank thats on your sig? If so hows the aggresion / temperament? Interesting your starry blenny is picky.. mine goes crazy for mysis too. (He still has plenty of his greens haha)

Will the Tail Spot Blenny just hide all of the time?

My tailspot was always out and about doing something, weather it was rasping some algae off the rock, hunting for new "homes" amongst the holes in the rocks, people watching from one of these said holes, or teasing my royal gramma. I have a couple larger fish as well, hippo tang and Atlantic blue, Even the presence of these heifers wasn't enough to keep my tailspot in the rocks.

I'd vouch for Starry, mine has been fun to watch. But after having to struggle and get the dummy out of my sump yesterday I want to punch it in the face haha. But really, mine is neat to watch.

Tailspot for sure. Mine cruises around the tank perching on rocks just watching the world go by. Then he'll drop into his holes from time to time to watch some more. The rest of his time is opening his funny large mouth to eat algae off the glass.
