A NEW nice looking HOT skimmer

Pump is included and you get a pinwheel and i think you get another flat disc and some mesh in case you want to meshmod it.

Dinielson, it'll handle a 75g heavy load no problem at all. With a meshmod it'll handle a heavy load 125g no prob imo.

Looks great luke, why didn't this come out 6 months ago dangit.

I'm missing something, it looks like the cup drain is going right back into the skimmer?

Hey Luke,

Not sure if you've played around with the octopus hob, but what do you think would be the biggest difference between the octopus hobs and this one? Reason I'm asking is because of the price diff.....of about 200 dollars. What would make this skimmer worth that much more?

mikeeal - the reason the pipe's like that is for if you're not around and it starts to over flow w/ skimmate, this way it doesn't go on your floor it goes back into circulation and can still be pulled out once you empty the cup (hopefully sooner than later). The reason it goes on the outlet part vs. the inlet, if you put raw skimmate back into your inlet on the skimmer, the thing would go ape shart.

isseym - The pump is the main expense difference... the octo hang ons use cheap $30 resun pumps that have what seems to be a 50% failure rate, this one uses a $100+ Italian Sicce pump that will work forever if treated right. The octo pulls somewhere in the 3scfh range and can handle 30-40g for a single pump version, this one can do 40-50scfh and would handle, like Luke said, 125g... if you have a large tank w/o a sump, I think this purchase would be well worth it.

I'll let Luke chime in w/ anything I might have missed :D

Thats pretty much it. The reaction chamber is larger on this guy and it pulls up to 50scfh. The octo is not even close to this guy performance wise. I've used the 300f and the rogue i used killed it, and this skimmer kills the rogue in performance if that tells you anything. But there's nothing wrong with the octo's or rogue, they work, just not as well.

So it only has that little space for skimmate and if you don't clean it out, it will go back into the system? Is there a drain pipe or something incase you aren't around?

Yep, i've been to lazy to hook it up, but once i use it as my main skimmer for that tank i'll put the drain hose on it. The final version will have a hose barb on there instead of an elbo fwiw.

Hmm that sounds good Luke and Danny. My 60g is not very full right now with livestock but one day it'll be quite crowded with corals and fishes. I've always purchased skimmers rated for tanks over 75g just because they'll be able to take care of the heavy bioload in my tanks. I don't have a sump so this skimmer might be the way to go. Now I wonder if I should just order it in advance.

isseym, most skimmers are overated, but not this guy. Its pretty much dead on with its ratings. I have it hooked up right now pulling 32scfh without a BP on. The main differences is its pushing more water and teh bubbles turn to a finer foam. Tonight i may mess around with it some more and try out the pinwheel to see what kind of performance i get.

Yeah.. I have a remora with maxijet 1200... It can't keepup with my heavy load 75g at all. Getting all the info I can from here so if I purchase it as a 1st gen, it won't be a waste of $350

I highly doubt it would be a waste. There's R&D going into these skimmers. I have a proto and it is kicking butt.

I tested out the pinwheel tonight and its pulling right at 30scfh and 22w hooked up to the skimmer. This will go up as the new generation will not be a direct hook up to the input like this one. Without being hooked up the pinwheel is pulling 40scfh at 21w.

I have it meshmodded with three layers. Its pulling 40scfh at 25w.

One last thing. If i didn't have it as a direct input connection i would be pulling around 47scfh and 28w : ) As a HOT. It just sounds goofy saying that

wow...all i can say is it's about f'ing time!!!! huh?

between this, the new WM (jns)hob, and the ATB hob, im feeling really psyched about my future nano projects for reef clients:)

hobs of this power are long overdue...
it's a golden day in skimmer world...lol

I've got a pic of what the final model is going to look like. Its pulling right at 30scfh as a pinwheel. And you'll see the best new part of the design. The reaction chamber has been widened as well.
