the Colt fan is almost correct. I would go HIGH-these fall under the light/blue/white color and that is on of the first colors to dissipate in the water column, any deeper and they will fade. Nice polyps either way! good luck with them

thanks geo i was hoping you would chime in..once acclimated i will start to move them up..i have a spot that i made room for the other day that will fit in just fine...thanks again

Aren't those Evil Mel's Green Skirts?

if so...They grow well and look good anywhere in the tank. I have them low/med/high. Its all good whereever.

Here are mine low:

the look close to yours rsteagall..what kind of lighting do you have your under???..i have 2 150w 14ks with 95w compacts. and plan to keep mine up high

I believe that pic was taken under 2x96W PC 10k and actinic.

I'm just saying that I don't think its absolutely necessary to keep them high. save the high space for the sps :)

I would put most zoanthids up higher than SPS anyway--they are deeper water coral for the most part, SPS.
IMHO

Most people do the opposite of this.

I am one of those, for good reason. Most any zoo/paly i have put in sps light have receded and the polyps get extremely small on those that make it, growth slows to nothing.

wow alot of my zoas that i have put in higher light has took off on growth and the color has got better..i do have a few that i keep on the bottom or shaded area that seem to hold better color that way and grow better..but for the most part most of my zoas are up high

and they might be misplacing their corals. I keep most of my polyps under (2) 250w DE 14K Phoenix PFO and none less than 8 inches under the water surface. The PFO pendants are about 12 inches off of the surface. i use to keep them under a 400w lumenarc 20K XM on an M59 but the spread was not enough. I would place any of my polyps under 1/4 inch of the surface before I would any of my SPS. IMHO and I have pretty good luck with the lighting.

I am going back to the 400W lumenarc with VHO in the very near future. This will be on a 10 inch deep tank. good luck.

wow alot of my zoas that i have put in higher light has took off on growth and the color has got better.

because most are found in shallow waters. I do not think I have ever seen an SPS in shallow--I have only looked about 10 times. Most SPS are deeper in less nutrient rich waters. IMO

that is what i have always seen when i have been diving that zoas are in very shallow water alot of times there are out of the water on low tide

i think geoman has a good point, even though alot of people think im crazy for doing it i have a 400watt halide for my zoanthid dominated 45 gal tank.

works well for me when i put them higher up. although i do not see problems when they go lower in the tank as well.
