A new reef arises

Great looking reef so far Iwan, even though your old tank was much more vibrant in coloration, this one looks like it will achieve the same results in the long run and look very realistic. Great job

Thanks. I hope that I will achieve the same colors as I had in my old tank. I think this point takes some weeks more.

Iwan,

Do you espect problems with shadowing when the corals start to grow on the overhangs en grow over the corals that stand underneath?

Stunning. Part of the effect is the clean deep blue background that frames the coral atol - beautiful. I dont suppose you have the color code for the blue?

Will you be adding non photosensitive soft corals to the underside of the ledges?

Hi Iwan,

Sorry if this was asked already.

What were the reasons for the new set up? Besides running out of room for corals to grow.
You mentioned the lights are from the previous tank. Filtration is new.

What lessons have you learned to make this one better? Any regrets with this set up?

Thanks for your time.

Thanks simon. Sorry, but I don't know the color code for that blue.
The idea with the soft corals sounds good...I'll check this possibility.

Iwan, I like how you hide the Tunze, looks like natural rock. What did you use to get this look? Also could we get an update on your maintence, water change, zeo products, etc. looks great!!!!

Thanks. The Tunze is integrated in a reef-ceramic element.

Water change: 10% per week (Reffer's best premium salt)
Zeo products:
Zeostart2: 5ml/day
K-Balance: 9ml/day
B-Balance: 9 ml/day
Spur2: 5ml every 8 days
Pocci glow: 10 drops/day
Aminos: 10 drops/day
CoralVitalizer: 10 drops/day

Good question. I planned the reef construction in that way I'll have not so many shadowing places. In fact the overhangs doesn't cover the deeper plateaus.

In the old tank I integrated the sump into the main tank. There was not enough place for a zeofilter. With the new concept I have a sump and enough space for the skimmer, zeo filter and all the other equipment.

Hi Iwan
How many net litres do you have? Have you noticed less need for using KB since using RB Salt?

Thanks

Simon

The Balling system is a chemical way to bring calcium, magnesium and carbonates into your system. Trace elements also can be brought in with the Balling method into the system. However, I confine myself to calcium, magnesium and carbonates.

Balling method: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/april2004/chem.htm

so its basicly a two part aditive plus mag. that you set up in a drip method

Exactly. With this method it is very easy to reach and hold your calcium and magnesium level. I had several problems to hold my ca level by using a ca-reactor. With this method....no problem at all.
I use a 3 part aditive. The 3th part is NACL free salt. This salt compensates for the arisen ion moving.

I am familiar with the zeo products and the k and b balance products. however spur2, pocci glow, the aminos and coralvitalizer im not familiar with, what brands do you use? I am using amino acids, but would like to compare the formulas that you are using to what I have, perhaps switch to them.

All the products are from Korallenzucht (the Zeovit company)
