A pair for my Perc

Hi All,
I have had a Perc for about 7 years now and I would like to try to get her a pairing. I say her because of the amount of time that has past with it being a solitary clown in my tank.

What is the best way to go? Type of Clown, Coloration, size, etc?

To pair, you need to have the same species of clownfish. Not sure about size in order to attempt a pair. Not sure if solitary clowns become females over time or not. Perhaps someone will chime in.

I did this last year with my 7 year old female clown. She had been a solitary clown her whole life (misbar perc) I added a very small, about 1" long occelaris and she accepted it without complaint. No fighting what so ever, but she's always been a very docile clown. Now it's a year later and she's laying eggs.

As mentioned, you want a very small individual of the same species. In my case, occy x perc is a fine combination.

Thanks Sugar, That is very encouraging. Mine has been very accepting of every fish ever introduced to the various tanks over the years. Maybe I will give it a try!

Thanks for the information SM. I wasn't quite sure whether it's best to get one smaller or the same size.

You can put any type of clown in with her. Just make sure it is a small one so it hasn't started to change to a female.

Yep, as above, you don't have to have a Perc for 'her'. Definitely go for a smaller specimen, and a Perc would be easier to pair up and produce offsprings, though Maroon and Occy can work as well.

Other species could potentially work, but may be a lot harder to produce offsprings.

Bad advice to suggest mixing clownfish species. Listen to Sugar's advice.
