A pic of my 75 g today 1 year details.

Thats ok.
The Koi are as addicting as this , but need lots more water.
Here is a pic of Mandarin from today, he is looking healthy again.

Amanda, what do you mean a little slow, my father was in PA and had a heater and water movement for his pond, so his fish stayed outside all winter. I thought that maybe he uses that to acclimate new pond fish, or was doing work on his pond so the fish were inside until it was done. SLOW!!! hmm...

Hey Rj
I like my fish to keep growing threw the winter, so rather then keep a hole threw the ice i bring them in. I have a 5000 g pond planed for 2006 , then they will stay outside. I will heat that pond with propane , with the filtration system in a greenhouse. My pond now is only 2' deep, new one will be 6' deep.
So winter 05 they will be indoors while i work on there new pond. So you are just 1 year off on that thought RJ

The indoor setup is : 400 gallon koi show tank plumbed to a Wave 1/15 hp pump, pumping about 2000/gal/hr. I bring the bead filter inside from the outdoor pond, so the filtration is 100% cycled . also run a 25 watt U/V filter . So far this has worked great for three years in a row.

They are huge, but with the outside temps dropping the water temps to 50 they get sluggish, it is harder to catch them in the smaller indoor pond in the spring when its time to take them outside.Their indoor water temps stay in the 70s. They jump out of the water and things when trieing to catch them inside,.The move this moring only took 1 hour , from filling the pond, to moving the filter , catching the fish etc...

do you have any pics of your pond? I rescently purchased a short-sale house & the backyard is totally landscaped with I am guessing 3-5000 gallons of ponds. The stream that connects the ponds I beleive has a leak which causes me to loose 2-3 inches of water on the lower pond so I plan on redoing the entire setup this next spring. My upper pond I plan on doubling the size & keeping only koin up there. The lower pond I also want to double its size & I figure I will keep the goldfish as well as the 2 bluegill's who the prev owner threw in there. I think I have 70+ baby's who are all about 2 inches long.

Anyways, what liner do you plan on using & how do you determine pump size? Do you plan on having a filter on your new setup? My existing setup doesn, I think it relys on about a 30 ft long shallow stream with plants to filter the water.

& O yea, you reef looks SWEET!!!

Prabably EPDM Liner. I have a Bead filter on my curent pond, and will use a nexus filter on my new pond and the bead filter for extra polishing. Pump size: depending on the size of the pond you need the water to turn over every hour, in my small indoor pond I have it turning over 5 X's hour . But in larger ponds 3000 gallons + a turn over of two hours is ok. So just figure your gallons , calculate head loss and pick a pump. There is almost as much to get into as the reef tank, ( not really). Just alot more earth to move.

how do I calculate head loss? The waterfall going into the top pond is probably 6ft higher then the pump coming from the lower pond & the pipe is probably 50-60 ft long.

Xenia were small pompom when i go them, theyr grow fast, too fast.
Viggen there is alot of formulas on the net to calculate your head loss in feet of pipe. But you can go the home page of reef central and on the left click the head loss calculate button it is very good, does it all for you.

I got 4 Velvet Nudibranchs from Marine Depot to eat flat worms that I have had forever. I acclimated them slowly , and gently put them in the tank in a small cup so they could crawl out onto the sand, they crawled out and then the currents blew them all over, they never stick to anything . I think one went right into the anenome . I hope a couple of them make it. I do not understand how they make it in the wild.

I just ordered two clams from clams direct , a Deresa and a Crocea . Be here tomorow . Now I just need to find the perfect spot for them.
