well i need to place my order within the next 50 minutes. my rotifer culture crashed last night. i need to order some live rotifers for a clutch that will hatch on friday night. i have two options. i can order the 600 thousand count rotifer package or the 5 million count package. i would rather buy the 600 thousand and save money, but will that be enough rotifers for a single clutch. i do plan on getting a culture going but for now i am concentrating on this single clutch. i know i should of put this in the breeding forum but there seems to be more traffic here. thanks

If I did not have the feed ready, I would likely pass on this clutch and get things situated in for the next in a few weeks.

Last minute changes increase the effort far too much for my taste :>)

Here's an option. Buy the 600 thousand and a bottle of DT's live phytoplankton (if you don't already have live phyto).

Keep the rotifers in your culture container until the clowns hatch. Don't collect more than about 200 babies. In the morning after the hatch, filter out enough of the rotifers (maybe the whole thing) to bring the rotifer density in the baby's tank up to recommended levels. Add enough green water to tint the water green.

Add enough green water twice a day to keep the water tinted. At those densities, the rotifers should be able to reproduce as fast or sometimes faster than the clowns are eating them. I have had two or three times when I have only added rotifers once and actually had to thin the rotifer population in the baby's tank by day 5. Once the babies start showing a feeding response you can start supplementing their diet with finely crushed flake food on day 4 or 5. That will take some of the pressure off the rotifer population as well.
