A quick question, CA reactor (gravity feed from display OR feed from return pump)

Hello reefers, I would like to double check if it matters what approach I am leaning to, gravity feed or return feed? Please advise. Thanks.

I am in the process of plumbing my tank so any help is appreciated before I buy the fittings. Cheers

I've fed mine both ways and have found both to work OK. You'll have to experiment to see which is better for you. Direct pump feed can cause significant pressure so need to be careful; passive drain may not provide enough oomph through the unit depending upon the drop height.

FWIW a masterflex pump is far better than both.

With my current setup I gravity feed to maintain about 3 psi within the reactor while using a masterflex plump. That little bit of pressure helps to dissolve the CO2 better and more quickly.

I would be able to control the flow with a valve. I guess it would be less issue if I feed it with clean water with my return pump, gravity feed might clogged the fittings overtime.

Thanks man.

FWIW, when I have tried to use needle valves to control flow from my main pump, they clog up all the time. Now, I don't use filter socks, so maybe you'll have less trouble. Is the primary reason I eventually threw up my hands and bought a used masterflex pump.
