A quick video I shot last night while tinkering with the tank.

elegance coral

They call me EC
I was messing with the flow, so I know there isn't enough of the gigantea.

Your whole tank is gorgeous!! How many anemone's are there total? Nice clam! I love seeing your Perc just burying himself in that 'nem, so cute!!

Thanks. There are 6 anemones in total. One haddoni, one gigantea, two magnificas, one crucifer, and one tapetum.
I found a new setting on my camera, so I may be able to get a better video up a little later.

Your tank is amazing EC!

How long have been your anemones together?
How big is your tank?
What about other people said about the chemical warfare?
I didnt believe in the chemical warfare, your tank is an example.

my clowns stay under my gig as well....it looks so soft and big I woudl expect them to bury into the middle of it...but no, they just go under it.

He's under it because that's where his eggs are. You may want to check under your anemone for clownfish eggs.

I too would like to know your theories on multiple anemones in one tank, and what you attribute your success to. I have mostly only heard negative thoughts about multiple species of anemones in one tank - constant movement, not inflating, etc. Thoughts?

Thank you.:D

The haddoni and crucifer have been together for years. The gigantea was added between 9 months and a year ago. It was bleached when I got it, but it has recovered nicely. The blue mag was added several months ago, and it too has been doing well. I've only had the red mag for about a week, but I'm not really worried about it. It's doing surprisingly well.

How big is your tank?

120 gallons

What about other people said about the chemical warfare?

Please don't take my tank as evidence to disprove allelopathy, or chemical warfare between anemones. This is an experiment. I've had the crucifer for probably 10 years. (just guessing) It's grown to about six inches and has always been healthy. Until I added the gigantea, that is. If you look at the crucifer in the video, you'll notice that its mouth is open. It never did this until I added the gigantea. It just seems like something is stressing the anemone. It still eats well and seems otherwise healthy. it's mouth just gapes open. If this gets worse, or doesn't improve, I'll be moving the crucifer to another tank.

I view it similar to the way I view allelopathy between soft corals and hard corals. Many soft corals produce substances that can kill hard corals. There are steps we can take to minimize this effect and allow us to keep hard and soft corals in the same tank. If these chemicals are diluted in a large volume of water, it helps to minimize the effects. I run a DI cartridge full of GAC at all times. I believe this, skimming, and large water changes also help to keep allelopathic substances from causing large problems between anemones. I have had to separated anemones when I thought allelopathy was running wild, and I couldn't control it. A friend of mine has my old malu now, because I believe it was killing my haddoni. I did everything I could, but my haddoni kept going down hill. I removed the malu, changed a large portion of the water, and my haddoni started improving within hours. So, I believe it is a real threat, but in the right conditions, it may be a threat we can control.

Another video. Still tinkering with the flow and camera settings. I'm board, what can I say?????

Hey EC!

Looks really really good!

And awesoem color on that Gig!Hard to find them that color, and so rich too, just dosnt happen anymore!

I dont usually venture into this section of RC but Im glad I did. You have a beautiful tank.

Well, I'm glad you stopped by. Be careful though, this can get addicting.:wildone:

Beautiful tank! Hope to keep multiple anemones in the future like you do

Thanks Conrad. I just hope people don't look at my tank and think they can just run out, buy a bunch of anemone, throw them all in the same thank, and they'll live happily ever after. It simply doesn't work that way. Allot of hard work, research, studying, and trial and error when into this tank. It's also still a young tank, so well see how things are going next year.

Nice to see this tank in action!

Thank you.:D

Thanks. It looked like a different anemone about 8 months ago, when I got it.

Beautiful anemones! Glad to see the gigantea and mag are fine after colliding a few weeks ago.

So one of the mags has a red base? I've seen pictures of mags with deep red bases--from the Red Sea I believe. Is the base a deep red? If so, where did you find it? I've always wanted one of those.

Thanks Gary.

Both of them seem fine. They didn't even show visible signs of stress while they were touching. I got the SCWD hooked up now, so the mag's shouldn't move again.

There is a red one, and a blue one with bright yellow tips on the tentacles. The red based one was said to have come from the east coast of Africa. From my understanding, the red ones are common in the red sea and off the east coast of Africa. The blue one came in with a shipment from Indonesia.

Yeah I know what you mean EC. Took me many tanks and years to finally decide I was ready to jump into the carpet anemone world. But it will be a while I think before I decide to jump into another one which I want a Mag next. I think that will be in my plans with the 200-265 gallon tank.

You must see a lot of anemones living in florida eh? Rare around here to see one

Conrad

Sometime, when you get a chance, I wish you would snap a few pics of the red mags base, so I can vicariously enjoy it. Here on the west coast the occasional mags I see are the reddish brown based ones and once in a blue moon the purple based ones. I have both of those color morphs. I would love to get my hands on a true red based one.

I just went and snapped these, special just for you.:D The red changes depending on the light. Don't know if this is the red you are looking for, but here she/he is.

Pics with flash.
