A Reef in the Sky

Best post ever !! Very clean and what´s best you did it all !!

Question ... you received a clean up crew back from Florida to Hong Kong ? Could you tell me where from ? I´m from Buenos Aires, Argentina and a clean up crew here is impossible to buy ... extremly expensive !!

One of the nicest builds i have seen. The ultra modern clean look is not my style, but this is A+++++ for organization, planning, design, and execution. Very very very well done.

Beautiful :)

I love your stand. specially the colors and the laptop on the side :) may I copy the design for my new upgrade ?

Andrew, you killed me.......

:eek2:
Corals look too much healthy..... Keep it up.
I did??? Thanks

Thank you. It has been fun designing it and seeing it come together... I will ask my distributor here in Hong Kong for some info and will PM you. I think he has some in the US that ships for him.

Sure... go ahead. If you need any info or clarification on anything let me know.

Hope you have deeeep pockets :lmao:
With no holes in them too!! :p

This is amazing tank! beautiful setup and corals. Pictures quality are also the best.

What lens you use for taking pictures? if you don't mind what setting you use too (manual mode, f=,iso=, no light...)

Thank you for the kind words. I am using the Canon Macro 100mm 'L' model lense. I'm overseas at the moment so will let you know some of the settings when I get back. Most are taken in Av mode.

GHL Computer & Dosing

I have been getting some inquires here and abroad regarding my GHL computer/dosing unit asking whether I am happy with it.

To be 100% honest, I love it!!

The amount of programming options/settings are simply unbelievable. It can do a lot more than I ever thought and will keep me entertained/busy for sometime. IMO the only area that can be improved is the difficult to understand manual. Since it is translated from German, the use of English and its layout can test the best of us. Fortunately there are some great support forums out there. Here are two...

Setup Complete

After some what of a delay, I have finished setting up the dosing unit. It was very easy to do thanks to the links above and AQD_ottawa from those forums. I didn't even open the manual for the balling unit.

Some pictures of the setup

Here are some screen shots of the various settings for dosing, pumps and my lights. I found the pictures of others very useful so I decided to include some of my own.

This screen shows what days, what time of the day and the amount dosed each time for Alkalinity. It is controlled by Timer2 under processes on the left hand side.

For Calcium. This is the same as above except the dosing of Ca occurs 10mins later and it controlled by Timer3.
Timer3.jpg

For Magnesium. This occurs twice a week and only doses 5ml. Controller by Timer4

This picture shows how I have my x2 Tunze 6105 pumps set up. Very happy with the random flow created. Down the bottom of the picture shows what min/max settings I have programmed for the Tunze. I also shows what its current status is.

Timer1 controls my ATI PM fans. Very useful since I don't need them running 24hrs/day. I let them run for at least 15mins extra after the lights turn off.

This is a cool function. Simulation allows me to set rainy days, passing clouds and the lunar cycle. Wednesday is the 'rainy' day and clouds pass every day.

This has been a basic example of what this awesome computer can do. Much more info can be found at the forums above. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Hope it helps those of you that were looking at the gadget.

Andrew,
How much ALK and Ca you are dosing per day. Alk and Ca solution is according to Rendy recipe or you have added less or more raw chemical, because I read some of ppl use two part but the chemical quantity is very different what Rendy suggested.

If I am not wrong, you are adding 40 ml per day, just the raw chemical quantity in RO water. HOW MUCH????

That's awesome... love the dosing set-up. Right now, I do everything manually, and just got some dosing pumps that I can't wait to set up.

Hi Andrew.

Nice built. love rimelesssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
Andrew, where did you get that light lifter. Thanks.

Best Regard,

sammy

thanks :)

I finally want to bring my work into reef keeping and designing a little computer to take care of all. still in design process though :)

I am not much of a DIYer with wood, but I love ure stand lol so invited my carpenter friend over this weekend to see if he can help :)

ahhh I love not being married lol I dont have to check with anyone if I can get a bigger tank and spend so much on a stand :P haha

beautiful tank again

Hi I LOVE your tank! I saw a picture a while back of your sump and would like to know what goes where in it, like is that far right section that is divided with a hole near the bottom is that the fuge? Thank you!

If I'm not mistaken he is using B-Ionic, in which the dosing wouldn't be the same as Randy's.

The instructions on the Ca and ALK containers state to fill RO water to the line marked on the bottle then mix/shake and you are good to go! I add RODI water and then pour the contents into my clear containers.

Current dosing is:
ALK - 40ml per day
CA - 30ml per day
MG - not required at this stage. The levels remain 1200 -1300

That's awesome... love the dosing set-up. Right now, I do everything manually, and just got some dosing pumps that I can't wait to set up.
Thanks... I have actually forgotten about dosing. This automation stuff is great!! Just currently checking ALK daily and Ca/Mg twice a week.

Hi Sammy and thank you. The light lifter was purchased here in Hong Kong. If you want to know more details about who to contact, let me know via a PM.

Thanks for the kind words Allmost. I am not really a DIY person either but love designing things. You should have a play around with Sketch-up. You might surprise yourself

Thanks duastina... I have no fuge in the sump area. Here is an old picture showing where everything is and water flow direction. Hope that helps

Fish Update

After much research I've decided to go with the following extra fish.

x1 Fourline Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus tetrataenia)
x1 Mandarin Fish (Synchiropus splendidus)
x1 Swissguard Basslet (Liopropoma rubre) [if I'm lucky]
x2 Flame Wrasse (pair) (Cirrhilabrus jordani)

Current Fish List

x6 Bartlett Anthias (Pseudanthias bartlettorum)
x1 Yellow Tang (Zebrasoma flavescens)
x1 Blue Hippo Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)
x2 Clown Fish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
x1 Magnifcent Foxface
x1 Bio Colour Dottyback (Pictichromis paccagnellae)
x1 Pacific Cleaner Shrimp
x1 Peppermint Shrimp

One thing I love about the fish street is the unexpected. Yesterday I went there to burn some time while I waited for another shop (yes a coral shop nearby) to open and to my surprise there was something there I was after.
Completely unexpected!! :celeb3:

The original shipment of Anthias are all alive but unfortunately there are x5 males and x1 female. Fortunately there is plenty of rock work to seek shelter as one or two males at times gets picked on. My goal is to introduce some more females and maybe sell the excess males.

These beauties

Geez... I would love if there was a "fish street" here in SoCal... course, I can't really complain since I've got about 4 or 5 pretty decent fish stores within 30 minutes of my house, which is more than a lot of people have within 30 miles of there house...

Nice looking fish... can't wait for more pics.

I still must get to some of the fish shops in SoCal. Always been meaning to check them out when I'm there but never enough time.
