Cheers tbone

This is blowing my mind!

Your tank is so awesome! WOW!

cheers from switzerland :)
Thanks Simon

Looks awesome and keep the pics coming!

Cheers Mav. I had a look on RS but you haven't updated your thread. Pics please.

Looking great Andrew. Your anthias look healthy. What are you feeding? I see the list of frozen foods.. What are your dry options?
Thanks sir. Below is what I feed all fish but not all at once. Mix it up plus soak some twice a week in Zoe (Kent Marine)

Cyclop-eeze 100% Wafer
Whole Freeze Dried Cyclop-eeze
Ocean Nutrition Formula Two Pellets
Ocean Nutrition Prime Reef Flakes
Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp Plus Flakes
Ocean Nutrition Spirulina Flake Food
New Life Spectrum Marine Fish Formula
Hikari Bio-Pure Brine Shrimp

The Achilles tang started eating all foods now after I purchased the Spirulina flakes. Not just the nori.

All fish are well fed

Great planning and hopefully the execution will be as good. How many hours do you have in the design? I will be checking back to see how this one turns out.
Too many hours spent

Hahaha... haven't you seen the pics above? :lmao:

Looks like he's executing pretty well so far! :D
Cheers Chad. Thanks again for your assistance with locating fish stores near LAX.
I'm going to have a look one of the stores today. Will try to get the ESV products in Vancouver next week. Hopefully I will have enough until then.

That substrate is just getting darker and darker!
It settled down but I'm not that happy with it. Trying to solve the problem.

What a side profile! This tank is aging like fine wine! Great job Andrew!
Ahhh, thanks Jonathan. Will be in NY again twice in Nov. Will PM you the details.

+1, just insanely beautiful.
Thank you. Appreciate it

Congratulation on the fin Detail and setup , and thank you so much for sharing your set up with us , you really inspire me for my next set up, But as live in Kuwait, I must order most of the parts for my set from outside Kuwait .

Thank you again
Thank you Jaffer for stopping by. Good luck with you new build. Be sure to document it.

andrew did you cement your pvc flexible hose to your ball valves?
Yes, they are.

Extraordinary project, i´m thinking to use zeovit method in my next proyect, and i want put aragonite sand like you, do you know how many kgs you use for your tank? My tank has a similar measures than yours (180x60x60).

I forget something :D , do you used the water from the other tank in this or totally water are new?

Thanks ;)
Thanks. From memory I used 4 (4kg) bags. But it is not a very deep sand bed. Only 2cm (3/4")
Totally new water made using RODI unit. Took over 3 days to fill the tank.

sweet build
Thank you Chet!

Wow what a truly amazing build thread thanks for sharing it with us and documenting it so nicely!
How much are you dosing Alk and Ca per day in ml's??
I have profilux doser and use Bionic as well great combo.

It is always a treat every time I visit your thread. Your tank is beautiful.
Thank you Mr Right. I enjoy sharing my experiences. Glad you like

.

Sounds great. I'll start my research now on some new shops we can try.
Cheers Jonathan... 1st & 2nd of Nov (Manhattan) then again on Sat 13th Nov (Brooklyn)

Its really beautiful tank , but why you don't keep LPS in your tank ?
Thanks Faisal.
I'm trying to keep nutrients down hence not having to feed the coral individually. Not really sure what other LPS to keep. Any suggestions?

Your welcome, glad you like it.
Alk: 40ml per day
10ml@ 11pm

Ca: 30ml per day
5ml @ 12:10am

Not dosing Mg as the content in Reefers Best Salt is fine. Also the the Alk/Ca mix ESV B-Ionic contains some.

I'm also very happy with the combo!

What Corals?

I asked you guys sometime last year what coral books you would recommend for identification and hunbandry. So I got these...

Aquarium Corals by Eric H. Borneman
Corals Of the World by Jen Veron

Some light reading :reading:

Predominately I want this to be an SPS tank but I plan on having some Acans and Scolys too plus a couple of LPS. These will come from my current tank plus I hope to acquire some more over time.

This will be an ongoing process... but below is what I have in mind at the moment. Always learning...

x3 Birds Nest Corals (x2 Seriatopora Hystrix & x1 Seriatopora Caliendrum)

x2 Club Finger Corals (Stylophora)

x20-30 Various Acropora (branching, bushy, cluster, bottlebrush, finger & tables)

x3-4 Monipora (Digitata, Tuberculosa)

x2 Porites

x2 Disk corals (Fungia)

The reefing community here in HKG is rather spoilt (IMO) from the vast selection of corals and fish available. Most are corals are small/medium collonies so I will have to be extra careful when introducing them. Out of interest, here are some pictures of some corals for sale from various shops here. [Pictures are courteous of shop owners prior to sale]

So I'm really excited once the tank is up and running to buy some corals...

Now that is a selection of corals !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey V1, just curious why you decided to not dose Ca and Alk at a 1:1 ratio ?Do you feel that the Alk is droping out faster? I always thought it was best to use both products at a equal ratio but with your success I guess it works this way too. Please do explain as I use the same stuff and work like to learn.
thanks a lot!

Andrew I have a question for you. How high do you have that ATI T-5 Fixture suspended above the water? Also if you could tell me the type of each bulb your using with that fixture I would appreciated and are you running a chiller? Sorry for all the question but Im in the process of setting up my new tank and I like how your corals look under that light fixture. Thanks

Hi tntneon,
I don't use white balance on the camera but adjust it on the computer. I shoot all pics in RAW as it allows me to adjust the WB.

Please see the link above provided by Ricardo for the answer

btw Andrew Gratz on the TOTM H2O + Something:celeb1:
Thank you Ricardo!

Yes, very lucky. Shipments will increase in frequency soon as summer hits the southern hemisphere :)

may i know where in hong kong is this store?. thanks
PM sent. Please note, I don't think they ship overseas, but not sure

Hi there,

Yes... I monitored parameters for a long time (2months) before connecting the automatic dosing unit. During that time I realized the Alk reduced more per day than Ca. Therefore I dose the amounts as mentioned above.
I was under the impression that 1:1 dosing was also required until I did some research and asked the water chemistry forums. There is no problem.

Here is the link Dosage of Alk & Ca not the same?

Hi Eric,

At the moment, the lights are approx 6" above the water level.

Bulbs: Front to Back
ATI Blue Plus
ATI Blue Special
KZ Coral Light Fiji Purple
KZ Coral Light Super Blue
KZ Coral Light Fiji Purple
ATI Blue Plus
KZ Coral Light New Generation
ATI Blue Plus

Sunrise/Sunset bulbs are the KZ Coral Light Fiji Purple & ATI Blue Plus

Yes I have been using a chiller. It keeps the tank temp between 27-27.5C. It is starting to cool down now so I'll have to look at getting some heaters.

Hmmmmmmmmm....

If only!!! :spin3:

Thanks Andrew!
Your welcome

I love the zebrasoma gemmatum, it´s beautifull...

It was the first time I had seen one in person. I was in Taipei for the day and it's where I saw it. They were asking ~$2100USD :eek2:

Some Interesting Pictures

After many months, some parts of this coral have started to grow. Up until this point, only its branches had been growing thicker. These two pics show growth in only 9 days!!

The only time I can take an average photo of the 'speedy' tang is when she's eating.

Transformation nearly complete! We now have a male Lyretail

It took only one month from the introduction into the aquarium

Yikes... $2100 is just a bit out of my budget :D

Love the growth pics though... I've got a staghorn acro that seems to be growing at a very similar pace.

The ATI Blue + and Blue Special, how different are they in color when you view them in your tank?

Congratulations for the great work!
I have been watching your try since the beginning and i can tell you that i am quite impressed.
This is the spirit my friend! You have made one of the best (especially regarding the colors) tanks and the aqua scape looks quite natural! Almost like a real reef!

Greetings from Greece.
