A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

Correct. For my "Closed Loop" water is pulled into my dart from the overflow on the end of my tank. It is pushed out from the lock line in the bottom of my tank. My center overflow drops water into the far end of my sump. On the opposite end, water is pulled into another dart and pushed out of the lock line on top.

Hope that helps!

Perfect understanding now. I am going to incorporate this in my next build, any feed back on using an ocean motion? Doesn't look like you're usin anything like that, any reason? Thanks for taking the time to respond. Hoping to take my 125 reef to a 1000gal reef within the next year

I love that first pic, that's a lotta fish :)

Thanks Brett. It was good to see you this past Saturday.

Yeah, that is a lot of fish. I turned on my SuperFeeder for that shot and all the fish swam to that side of the tank to catch some food. They all start congregating in that area around noon each day. They have some sort of internal clock and know when the feeder will be automatically turning on.

Dan the tank looks really good! I am having an issue keeping my alk up in my tank. I have my calcium reactor effluent valve fully open and i'm melting the media at 6.45 which is pretty aggressive. I am using an octopus reactor which holds 40 lb of media and I run the largest kalk stirrer that deltec makes. What are you doing to keep up with demands on your system, a doser or reactor?

Thanks,

Adam

Hey Adam!

Sorry for the delay. I have been absolutely swamped lately.

I am still using a doser. I make the BRS formulas, double strength and doese hourly. It works for me. I also have my top off water running through an Avast Marine Kalk Stirrer. This definitely helps with my ALK.

I looked at the Ocean Motions and think they are a pretty cool product. I just haven't found it necessary to add anything else. I am real happy with my Vortechs. The four give me plenty of motion and movement. I have a 3rd MP60 that I also will be adding soon.

It was nice seeing you too Dan, I hope we can keep getting the group together and become more of a community. I agree with you on the internal clock, they really do get set in their ways. They get to know who feeds them too and can spot you from across the room.

Wow! My husband and I spent the entire day reading the story of your build. Simply amazing!!! You should write a book or make a documentary about this entire adventure!

We are so glad to have joined and will be following along as it continues!

Are there any fish in there that if you could remove easily you would remove?

Good question...

I don't think so! I am pretty much happy with everything. There are a few smaller fish that I never see :(. That kinda bums me out at times. Sometimes I even think they have passed on. But then when I do see them - it's great. There is something that has been nibbling on my Bowerbanki Acan. I'd like to find that fish so I can throw it in Time Out!!!

sweet lookin powder blue and convict tangs...

Thanks Brian!

The Powder Blues are really showing their colors and my Convicts are both getting fat! One of the guys from my LFS was over a few weeks ago and told me that he never say a Convict Tank as thick as mine. I think that's a good thing!
