A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

Coral Placement Day

Coral Placement Day

So I spent the day with my hands in the tank, moving my existing and installing my new corals.

My hands are cut and full of Super Glue Gel and dried aquarium aqua sticks. My skimmer is going absolutely nuts!!!

Here are some updated pics:

Dan,

Goto Costco and buy a case of latex surgical glues. I learned my lesson after mounting a bunch of frags on day I didn't notice the extra super glue gel and I went to relieve myself... Lesson learned. I put on a pair of gloves before I do anything in the tank now. Between stinging corals, stinging fish, glue... gloves are safer for me and the livestock.

Dave

PS -- Did I forget to mention the corals look great !!! How did the clowns arrive ?

It's looking great. Love all the new shipments

Thank you dotcommer! I ended up buying the few coral from the WYSWYG section at Live Aquaria. Most of my corals I have been getting from Simply Elegant Aquatics (my LFS).

I have been told that will soon be starting an internet business. I will let everyone know when that occurs. They get in some amazing corals at great prices!

Looking great Dan, are you auto feeding with that little fridge. If so, can we get some more details on that?

Brett:

I received the Dosing Pumps last Friday and I picked up all of the flex PVC and pipe fitting this weekend.

Simply Elegant is ordering the large bottles of Phyto Feast, Mysis Feast and Fuzzy-Phytes from Reef Nutrition for me.

Now all I need is time to do the plumbing. Hopefully Friday or this weekend.

Considering my fingers are all cracked and cut up, that is another great suggestion from you.

I will have to stop by this weekend. I could use one of those Hebrew National Hotdogs and large drink too.

The Clowns are doing great. I just added them to the main display yesterday. I liked Scott a lot. I will post some pics shortly.

Very nice thanks for keeping us up to date with everything.Have you decided to leave the lock-line returns at the bottom of the tank has is and let mother nature camouflage at some point? Mike

Mike:

I haven't figured it out yet. I am trying to keep the bottom/sand clean looking. I did peel off some sheets of polyps that I had in my old tank. I may put my 13 year old in the tank with the polyps and some super glue and see if he can't mask or camouflage them. Otherwise...I will let them get covered with Coraline...

A Few Fish, Coral & Invert Pics

AS you know by now, I like things in pairs... All my pairs/fish are getting along well except my Powder Blue Tangs. I ended up putting one of my Powder Blues back into QT to fatten him up a bit. Both my other Powder Blue and one of my Powder Browns was picking on him a bit. I will reintroduce him in a couple of weeks when I add a pair of Chevron and Achilies Tangs.

How about my new Clowns. I love their markings.

I love a well populated and busy tank! Incase I missed it, whats your limit on fish going to be? Love it, Love it, Love it!!!

danfeig this is one hell of a tank. Man the tangs your adding is absolutely amazing! I love it! Got a question for you about your setup.. Do both of your overflows just stricly drain into your sump and then you just have one pump on either end bringing the water back in or are both of the pumps on both sides of your sump putting water back in the tank. I am gathering ideas for my dream tank one day i am only 19 so i have plenty of time to plan! Once again this tank is going to be amazing!
