A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

Wow!! That is a big one. How often will you have to reverse flow through it to clean it out? I look forward to see how you plumb this into the system.

I am not sure. I don't think very often. The idea is to allow the bacteria to form and grow in the chamber. I believe as long as the sand continues to fluidize, I won't need to touch it. Finding a pump has been a challenge. They suggest a high RPM pump, 3,450 RPM. One of the LFS's has loaned me a used 3,000 RPM Little Giant. I am going to see how that works.

I have to say I never seen one that skinny before and not seeing the sand movement chamber also. But it looks like a beast of a filter.

Hey Wayne. You do see the sand movement chamber. It's the clear chamber on the top and will fluidize approximately 1/2 - 3/4 ways up. Hopefully I will get it set up this weekend.

Yep, that looks Friday.

Talk about TGIF

Can't wait to see what is in the boxes.

Its Christmas every Friday at Dan's place

Now hear this, now hear this. Friday has officially been changed to Danday. That is all.

You guys crack me up!

I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow. I spent the day reprogramming my Radion's and working on my Fluidized Sand Reactor.

Everything is going great!!! Just not as much time in the day as I would like!

Dan,

When you first set up your tank you said that feeding always from the back of the tank caused the fish to get startled when people approached the front of the tank. Is that still a problem or did you have to do things differently to fix the problem?

They no longer get startled. I think they are used to me standing and staring all the time.

Even when I clean the glass, they don't swim away. Actually, a few of them sometimes chase the magnet!

I have been looking for some type of matching cantera stone object that I can install on hinges above the tank. I would like to be able to cut some holes above the drywall so that I can feed from the front.

T-minus 2 days to DanDay and counting

It's not going to be a big shipment week this Friday. Just a couple of boxes. I am expecting some shipments from Neptune Systems, Marine Depot and maybe some livestock.

I still need to post some pics from last week!!!

No matter how big or how small the box is going to be, it still will be Danday regardless. I so much want to be like Dan.:dance::dance:

Skimmate Locker Bucket

Skimmate Locker Bucket

Not a great pic...

This was one of my deliveries last week and I can't tell you how helpful it is.

It is a clear 5 gallon bucket that gives me a visual of how much waste is being stored from my protein skimmer and a better idea of when I need to empty it. The locker itself, from Avast Marine, has a float sensor inside. It will shut off my protein skimmer if the bucket gets full.
