A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

Sunburst Anemone

Sunburst Anemone

I just got back to Tucson from a few days at the spa with my wife. A gift of sorts for giving me a Hall Pass so I could go to Macna.

Anyways, I had a nice surprise when I came back.

Nice freebie!!! if you decide to get a Canon dslr Ill trade a 100mm macro lens for the sunburst

Looks super sweet, I just wish MACNA was during a time of the year that 1) I could take off more than a long weekend (I'm sorry if I have to pay money to fly anywhere I'm making a vacation out of it, as a teacher I'm limited to when that occurs) 2) My wife wasn't working so hard on the family farm/farmers markets this time of the year.

Who knows maybe sometime in the future it'll get drivable distance... then I only have to worry about telling the wife "I'll see you in 3 days" :D

One of these days there will be a MACNA near you! They are a lot of fun! Denver isn't too far... I enjoyed Florida, however, I thought the comradely in
Dallas was better as there were fewer distractions (the beach) for attendees. More attendees were hanging out in the bars!

Spain

Spain

Spotter suggested I contact you...I am in Barcelona then to Madrid..said you were over here recently and went to some reef shops? Any suggestions?

I just pulled out some pics from when I visited. I only remember a couple:

1) In Barcelona, Dauer Aquarium
2) CoralReef in both Barcelona and Madrid

I can't remember the name of the Reefer that lives in Spain. I will try to find you his contact info.

So I was doing some tank maintenance today, and a reefer friend stopped over and I realized I haven't added anything new to my tank in 2 months.

So then I got to thinking that I need to do some shopping.

Then I thought maybe if Dan did the shopping and it was a Fedex Friday I could live (shop) vicariously through him and save myself having to get out the epoxy and mount some new corals.

So fess up Dan..... Was it a Fedex Friday ?

:)

Yeah, the unfortunate thing about Denver is that I actually have family that I rarely see there... so that would be kind of a kick in the crotch to go there and then not spend much time with them all for some "silly fish show thing" :D

Back From The Dead...

Back From The Dead...

Guys, I feel like I have been gone forever.

I have been so swamped with work and the kids that I have not been able to spend as much time as I like working on my tank and perusing all the threads here on Reef Central.

My tank has been on auto pilot. My Genesis System has been swapping out 15-20 gallons per day and Justin has been coming over and servicing my tank each week. Other than feeding, changing my socks and enjoying a beer or glass of wine in front of the tank - there hasn't been time to do much else.

I have had a few colonies that have not been looking as well as they should. I have lost several branches of my trumpet corals and my bowerbanki doesn't like she is doing as well. None of my acans are looking like they should :(.

I am going to make some time for my system this Sunday when I have the house to myself!

Dave,

My last big purchase was before Macna. I got a nice shipment of 5 acro colonies from Unique Corals.

They have been sitting in one of my QT's as I have not had the time to place them into the main display. I am hoping this week.

I have a couple of problems though... some of my existing tabling colonies are getting so big that they are casting shadows down different areas of the tank. I am afraid that I am going to have to do some serious fragging.

Hopefully this weekend I will have the time to get my hands wet!

Regards,

Dan

Thanks for the update Dan! Hope you can get your corals happy again! I'm sure they will be great once you have time to get your hands wet this weekend!

Either Dan is doing some serious catching up on the tank, on vacation, or busy with a new venture.

Jeez, Wayne... I am gone for a few days and your trying to crack the floor with your head.:headwally:

I seriously hope that you are okay and aren't overdoing it!

I've been busy but hope to have some serious upgrades and updates soon!

Please update us with Pics and a Tang update. Are the Sohal's still playing nicely with the Achilles and Clown Tangs?

The tangs are all doing great! Everyone seems to be getting along well. One of my large Lopezi Tang's rules the roost. The Sohals seem to be 3rd in the pecking order and the achilles are way down the list. The larger of the Sohals sometimes chases the smaller one. They seem to ignore the one Clown Tang that I have.

I am hoping to come up to Phoenix/Scottsdale in the next couple of weeks. I would love to check out your tank!

Great news on the tangs.

I would love for you to come and visit when you are in town. I am off the 101 and Cactus in Scottsdale. Ryan (NaClH20NMYVEIN) who has a 540 Gallon with a separate house as a fish room is 5 minutes from my house and Elliot with the the 900 Gallon (who has taken tank automation to a new level ) is also within 5 minutes. I am sure they would be more than welcome to have you come over and check out their tanks.

I will PM you my contact info and address.
