A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Thanks and I can't wait until it's done either! The hydroids gave me a little sick feeling in my stomach but now that the frags have made way to the big frag tank, have not seen them. My frag QT is drained/refilled and ready for another round of frags.

I've had one of the monti caps bleach out and a couple of the frags start to lose some coloration while in the frag QT. Think it had to do with the multiple dippings more than anything as the season's greeting right beside it has more color than it did when coming into the tank. With time I'll see the color bounce back so hoping in the next month it does....With my dosing dialed in for now I was rather happy with the past 3 tests I've done this week. Alk - 9.1, Calcium - 440, Mag - 1395, PH - 8.10 (Towards end of photoperiod), and Nitrates - 0!

This morning headed to buy some frags (Sunny D Zoas, Whammin Watermelon Zoas, Green Rics, and a Red Acan) then off to Premium Aquatics annual 'Garage Sale' so see if I can find any deals I can't pass up then!

Picked up the frags I mentioned earlier and may be getting some additional ones this weekend/week so I can start another round of dipping since frags are now all moved over to my tank.

Made it over to Premium Aquatics for the 'garage sale' and picked up reefcrystals salt for $6/bag to just use for my fish QT tank for a while and some Red Sea Pro salt for my main system for $25/bucket!!! Also picked up a nice waste collector and a few other items for amazing prices. Wish I would have made it earlier as some of the items I saw (Vertex RO/DI system for $50, Hanna Full Phosphate checker for $25) made me a bit sick.

Enough babbling but rarely do you come across rock bottom prices of reef items:)

Touche!!!! Unfortunately my rental period was up so the lens has been returned to its owner....lensrental.com. I highly recommend that site.

Gosh...You guys are so hard to please! Just got home so snapped a couple quick shots with the phone! (I'm getting lazy like Steve and did not feel like going upstairs and getting my big boy camera)

Traded off ~1/2 my torch for two varieties of hammer. Now I have two varieties of hammers, a torch, and two varieties of frogspawn. Think I'm done with euphyllias!

S.J., tanks looking great so far. I've actually taken the ATS offline and plan on possibly adding a 3d ATS later down the road. Unfortunately, I found the maintenance and worries of a possible flood with the other one was not worth it IMO. After speaking to many about the topic, so many SPS lovers are against ATSs and it scares me a bit as I've not seen many ATS tanks that look good and have an ATS.

Just got my MACNA tickets secured too:) Hope some others following along plan to go to Dallas then? Anyone else out there planning on going?! :bounce1:

ATS- Algae Turf Scrubber

What are you saying.....man......:uhoh2:

Algae Truf Scrubbers in not good for SPS tank.:o you made me worry. I planned and design my plumbing to feed ATS..... I hope you don't mind and with your permission I will quote your post on my thread, want to know more about ATS. will it good for my new system...

I tell you what. In my previous 300Gallong Mixed reef Tank. I keep open 80W 6500K bulb on sump for 24/7. to doing this, it grow a lot of different algae in the sump, all Cyno moved on the area which was receiving strong light all the time. DT was quite clean. no single sign of Cyno and algae on the sand and rocks.

After looking your thread I made plan to make algae scrubber, but I got confuse.....:crazy1:

any other suggestion?

Yeah couldn't turn down macna. Only a 2 hour trip for me fortunately! Where are the pics of the Apollo light fixture?

Been kind of busy and have not had a chance to snap any pictures with the frag tank lit up by them but I earlier posted them here. Once I have the bandwidth I'll be doing full pictures and PAR readings from the Orphek Dif and the Apollo Fixture. I'm hoping to pick up our club meter today so I can start to do some testing:D

S.J., posted in your thread....Don't want to start an ATS debate. At this point I found the ATS to be more trouble than it's worth and likely is due to my low phosphates/nitrates and limited feeding of the Anthias that are currently in the tank. I'm considering carbon dosing to control phosphates/nitrates because it's much easier to maintain and you really just need additional skimming to to provide the much needed additional aeration/skimming needed in a carbon dosed tank.
