A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Beautiful Dustin! Absolutely beautiful!!!!

I really enjoyed your time lapse video and the entire process of how you planned out and implemented your aquascaping.

Great job!!!

Time lapse is totally awesome as is the final product! How long in real time did it take?

Wow Dustin!!!!! Absolutely amazing!!! Your attention to detail thru out this entire process has been amazing.

Much appreciated. It's been a fun process and I'm not ready for the projects to end so I've still got LOTS of work to do before I can call it complete.

I'd estimate 18-24 hours total. I had help for about 4 hours of that from a fellow reefer.

Really nice job"_

Incredible build and time lapse Dustin. I am looking to start my build thread on here towards summer. I have an identical sized tank except I have the C2C external overflow. Kinda crazy my name is Dustin as well..2 Dustin's with 2-600g tanks, what are the odds. I am building a new home and pretty much building the house around the tank, although the original plan to have it here before they framed failed, it is resting comfortably inside the house now(after removing siding and a window but hey the things we do for this hobby). Love your rock work, but curious to see if you can get an birds eye view of the tank and maybe some close up of the zipties holding the rocks. I also read the aquascaping thread and was wanting to do something similar with a valley. Got my inspiration from oregonreef.com except wasnt able to go with a 6' deep tank. Heres a few pics of mine.

Ok, figured out a good option on the DSLR time lapse of the aquascaping and fairly happy with the results. Made a rookie mistake on manually setting the white balance so hope no one is epileptic! Again, to reiterate the method....I used a method Paul Whitby outlines in the following three articles:

Aesthetics of Aquascaping

Aesthetics of Aquascaping II

Aesthetics of Aquascaping III

Below is YouTube video of the process, sorry for mooning the camera a few times but not exactly the most comfortable positions in a tank aquascaping!

Wow! Incredible Dustin! I was waiting very patiently for this time lapse and it was worth the wait, can't wait to see more progress.. by most favorite build thread ever, hands down.

I have to say that was one of the best mooning aquascaping I have ever seen. Great work.

That was awesome Dustin, great video. It's obvious your wife was the project manager on this job.

Yeah, she helped point out places where you could see PVC while I was in tank...Did not exactly have a lot of room to look and see where it was visible.

Looks good and you'll have to share the link once you have a thread going. Tank of yours looks great and would have went with C2C but came across a really good price on this tank. I love the oregon Reef, probably my favorite tank and too bad it crashed and was tore down.:worried2:

Patience is the most important tool for us! I'm not sure it's the favorite build thread ever but hope it's helped a few reefers out! This community has taught me a lot of what I know today and try to share it in our club, INDMAS.

There was a whole lot of near plumber-butt shots in that vid. Darn near needed to blur a few frames LOL

Made2Rock enjoyed popcorn while watching it....Sorry for the moonscaping:facepalm:

Nice video. I like it

Thanks David! I'd love to have a fixed camera on the wall take pictures throughout the year 2-3 times a day and then compile the photos to watch a tank mature....Seriously considering it and just turning one of my old laptops into doing it.

Good job man.... Yeah... about that moon... This is a family channel and I am going to have to put a NC-17 rating on that video... HAHAHAHA

This is just something cold northerns say to make the winters seem worth it!

Yeah, I'd have to agree with you on that.

It's "spring" here, but the snow is still a good 4-5 feet deep in my yard. I'd be perfectly content to NEVER see snow again.

Well done Dustin! Your video is great! Love the quick vacuum in the middle of it to keep everything clean and allow you to focus on the aquascaping.

Nice job!

Wow just wow! I can't wait to see water going in this tank!

Me neither. I've got an issue with my RO/DI :headwalls::headwalls::headwalls:

I'm trying to figure out and has me stumped as to why it's not working. I'm getting 60 TDS before my DI stages after doing the upgrade and have a thread asking for help on the chemistry forum.

Lookin good Dustin!

Thanks!

I think the guy in the white t-shirt did a better job.

I thought he was a slacker!

Yeah, those rocks start to hurt to step on!

I manage all of the Canada accounts in my job and can say that I try to stay here during the winter season as you get way too much slow. I think we had maybe 3 descent snow storms and nothing that was an issue for driving a car around with as they're great with clearing the roads in my area.
