A sad day for reefkeeping...

Wow, I had no idea he was even sick. We've met quite a few times, and Greg was always very personable. Truly a sad day for the reefkeeping community. Greg, you will be missed.

That was Greg... he didn't want anyone to know. He took such great pride in this hobby, and always had an open, unbiased approach to things, and that was to our great benefit.

We are looking to combine our July meeting into a possible frag swap with some other clubs, and dedicate the meeting in his honor. I spoke with Greg's wife Lydia and of course their hospital bills are huge, so we'll be trying to organize getting his equipment to the meeting, with all proceeds going to a college fund for Greg's two children. I'll also be bringing lots of frags, and all those proceeds will go their family as well. If others would like to join the cause, the more the merrier.

I'll also be offering up a "Snorkel in the Atlantis Reef Tank" raffle, the winner gets to join me in a snorkel tour of the tank.

Any other ideas, suggestions will be appreciated as it will be time to remember and celebrate Greg's life.

I will be attending Greg's funeral at Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:30am, Friday. Whoever wants to take a ride with me, please call me at (516)376-4249. We will meet by 10am at Kentucky Fried Chicken located at "254-65 Horace Harding Expy
Little Neck, NY 11362-1816", on the LIE ext.32 north side service road and Little Neck Parkway.
 
Greg’s contributions to this hobby were many, and he will be missed.

One of the most incredible individual I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Let’s not forget what he has done for us all.

I remember the first time I met Greg at NERAC I (2005). His presentation was about which fish are reef safe and I still have the notes from that meeting!

I only had the pleasure of meeting Greg two or three times, but he was always pleasant, helpful and eager to answer questions.

Joe, you always spoke very highly of Greg, and even last week you posted about the clam from Greg's tank (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1126704)

Also, I think Joe's idea about the July meeting is a great one!

Thank You Joe for letting us all know. I also need to thank Tony Vargas for keeping us informed. I had the luxury of hanging around with/ sharing valuable time with Greg evenings after the shop closed and numerous times at the house. Gregory, was a Great Person, Friend, Scientist and continually pushed the envelope to understand marine life and press on to the future. I will miss him tremendously. Best possible regards to lydia and the kids, well not such kids anymore.

Thanks to all that left a message for the family of Greg Schiemer at:

At the eulogy today, given by Greg's father in law, he was not only impressed by the number of people, but he was even more impressed that the guest book had visitors from around the world. He actually printed it out and used it in the euglogy, siting the various regions of the world touched by Greg.

So thanks again for a making a difficult day a bit easier on everyone.

Man...that kind of news hits really hard. Greg was such a happy guy whenever I was with him or having a conversation...it just always felt good.

His genuine smile always made me feel like we were so close, even though we lived on the other coast....

Thanks Greg for all the nice things you always said about our company and myself. Thanks for all the advice and moments we shared together......

Conferences will never be the same without you and I am sure I will still be looking around the corner to see where you are!

Thanks again Greg....I am so sorry.
