A second mantis hitchhiker?

I removed one a few days ago. This morning I find the remains of one of my hermit crabs. Sorry for the stupid question, but I am relatively new at this.....do hermit crabs shed their exterior? Is it possible this is what happened? Or is there another mantis lurking beneath? I don't hear the same clicking I did before. I now hear one maybe two clicks. It almost seems like the sound could be produced by the wobbling snails on the tank glass.

Hermit crabs do molt. Typically, you will see what looks like a bunch of legs and head with white tattered flesh attached.
