A simple Bonzai Acro photo

Here is a shots I took last night. I used a D800e, Nikkor 105mm f2.8 VR, Nikkor TC-20E III, RRS TVC-33s tripod & BH-55 ballhead with Versa 3 quick column. The shot is with the lights off and a UV flashlight aimed at the polyp.

Nothing too special, but it's clean!

Sorry for the late reply!

The Nikon TC-20E III is a tele extender. It extends the focal range by a factor of 2.0 so I can essentially have a 210mm lens in stead of a 105mm lens. The drawback is that it reduces the amount of available light that can get to the camera sensor so I have to drop my shutter speed or up my ISO value to compensate. It doesn't increase the magnification factor though, for that you need extension tubes or bellows.

Looks good to me. What is natural/unatural anyway, photography is more about perception and expression of the subject as you see it as opposed to always 100% accurately capturing what the naked sees... would I buy a frag of this coral based on this photo - no - but would I hang this on my wall over a stock or standard lighting shot - yes!

Did you crop this shot at all? Why not just ditch the TC and crop down to this composition and give yourself more available light to work with... unless you think you made out with better IQ this way.

I did not crop the image. I wasn't too worried about the light/IQ since I had the pumps off and the camera was on a tripod. There is a minor amount of movement in the polyps but nothing I was worried about at the time. If the shot was for a paying project then I would have done what you suggested. But I was having fun playing with the new body and configuration!
 
Wow that's some beautiful pictures. Great idea using UV to bring out the fluorescence. Really brings out the pop in corals which we are all looking for.
Could neone ID the coral in the below pic,.,, thanks in advance

It look like superman monti to me.
 
My first thought was superman monti, but the raised coralites, differently colored polyp centers and slender pointed tentacles make me think cyphastrea.
