As to knowing any secrets to coloring up acros, i know of no such secrets............

10mm float glass with snapped edges as i'm too stingy to pay for fancy edge work.

Been following this thread for a while now. LOLed hard when I read this and decided I had to check in!! Glad I'm not the only one out there who isn't willing to pay out the nose for starfire and fancy edge work!!! With the edges hidden and the tank full of rainbow coloured acros the glass becomes insignificant :D

You get that new tank filled up with glowing acro's and no-ones gonna' give a darn about the edges, besides you can use them to cut the throats of anyone trying to steal your acro's :)

Biggles you gave me an idea with the angled T5's :) Thanks!! I'll be doing a dance when I electrocute myself building a lighting system hahaha

Picked the tank up from Williamstown and everything looks great :-)

I made Kevin squeeze into the overflow to check the hole sizing........

Also bought a male solorensis wrasse, hippo tang, 6 lyretail anthias and a 1" blue clam.........

Beautiful tank biggles,it looks great!!
Nice and clean work!
Can't wait to see it up and running!
Any thoughts about aquascaping?
The things you do to kevin makes him the bad koala he is:p

I didn't know you were planning an upgrade mate, spill the beans on what you're thinking of going with please !
We have been wanting to upsize for a while, If it fits in with the plans to install Solar with the Tax refund/Stock Option sale, the plan is to build a tank that would go across the back of the couch and divide the family room from the dining room to an extent. Right now we have to keep the dining room table far away from the back of the couch because the flying wiener dogs jump on the dining table from the couch if its too close.
I'm still planning out dimensions and kind of dreading diving into construction again, but the size will probably be 72X32X22" or 72X36X22". It will be rimless and three sides starphire cause I can't get enough of cleaning glass:crazy1:

Sahin, the first rule of acro coloring SPS dances is - we don't talk about acro coloring SPS dances!!

awesome what are the dimensions of new tank? Jack is awesome guy, I have just ordered some angels from him hopefully he can bring them in soon.

lol, always enjoy these posts. :)

Do you need to blow a fan across that to keep things cool?

Hey Mark, i have a pedestal fan blowing towards the tank from across the room to keep fresh air around the sump and display water. The wall aircon unit blows directly onto the display so i don't need a small fan over the water which i used on previous radium tanks.

Yeah right. Why dont you tell them about your secret SPS dance?

Well i was going to talk about the negative effect coral density has on the effectiveness of your bio filtration but dancing naked in front of my display is just as interesting i guess.......

Hi mate, i couldn't agree more. No one ever looks at my tank, just the stuff inside it :)

Make a video of the sps dance lol

Lol Dan, i need a full moon..........

Sounds like a plan to me mate lol.......

Make sure someone is videoing you when you throw the switch please Richard :p

I found one of my anthias on the carpet this morning :( all my other fish are eating well and seem very healthy in the sump.

Thanks Mike :) I want two separate islands with a diagonal channel between them that's lined with colorful tabling acros like an elm lined street in summer. It will be placed so that when i'm in my lazing position on the couch i'm looking directly through the sand and flubber lined trench. I do the same with my current display and place some acros so i can see them from the couch.
My scapes usually evolve over time due to my need to tinker.... Sahin loves my tinkering :)

Now that is a super cool SPS tank you're planning mate. I actually ordered a new larger magfloat with the German order - going to really enjoy cleaning about five times more glass than i have to now....... oh and you have to love trying not to scratch the glass when your peninsula has about 13 feet of display panel meeting the sand bottom :crazy1:

Sahin is sneaking around spying on all of us mate, watch him real close.........

awesome what are the dimensions of new tank? Jack is awesome guy, I have just ordered some angels from him hopefully he can bring them in soon.

Thanks Ryan, it's 1690 x 815 x 470 with a 150mm wide overflow all the way across one end drilled for 3 x 32 mm tank fittings.

Jack is a great guy to deal with as are all the guys at his shop. What angels did you order mate ?

Tank looks sick!! Can't wait to see this thing in action. Have fun with your new build

Thanks mate, i'm really happy with the dimensions now i have it at home :)

Must be a special clam if you bought it.

Marty

Hey Marty :)

It was $125- and that's half the price i have ever seen on any clams for sale. He's nothing amazing but has some nice blue pigments so i couldn't pass up the great deal even though he's tiny. His name is Kenny btw.

Sorry about the fish suicide Biggles.

Thanks mate, i hate stuff like that when it happens. I was bummed all day at work today over that little fish and fed the other guys a tonne of food until lights out just to make sure they went to bed full :)

I thought you bought Kevin a wetsuit and he was going to clean my glass?

I heard Sahin went to Borneo to join forces with Bello. According to the internet, so it must be true, they are planning a major acro heist.

Awesome biggles! Looking like a really nice tank, can't wait to see that bad boy stocked with SPS for you to move all over the place

Just keep that Kevin away from the tank, Iva had a koala built tank before and it didn't end well ;)

He'll raise your nutrient levels while he's at it Marty, Kevin's a notorious pool piddler......

Thanks Scotty, the mind boggles at how much floor space i'm going to have for musical chairs acro scaping - Sahin will lose his mind once i start fiddling in this bad boy...... :crazy1:

Your aquascaping plan sounds great!
Can't wait seeing it happen:)
Couch,beer/s and reef are inseparable:)

Thanks Mike, you know me though so who knows what i'll actually end up with for a scape lol.

Awesome dimensions, I just ordered my new tank yesterday 1850x800x500.
Just a bandit angel

Thanks Ryan, your new tank is almost the same thing but a bit longer and you're going to love the dimensions for a peninsula when you see it in person mate
I'm pretty sure those bandit angels are super hard to keep aren't they, i'd kill one of those within days lol.

I grabbed a 2 x 3ft sheet of 3mm black acrylic at good old Bunnings - that's the Aus version of whatever your big chain hardware stores are over in the US or Europe. I went to go down the aisle where the acrylic was and a 'worker' had it roped off to redo the shelving. " Sorry sir but you can't get through here " " yeah i can i just step over this rope and i'm good " as i stepped over his special yellow aisle blocking rope. I grabbed the sheet as he starts with the " you're not allowed to be in here sir...." and as i stepped over the force field rope i said " you might want to make that rope a bit higher buddy "

I am just as horrible a person in real life as i am on here........

The local Bunnings made the mistake of telling me the business i work and spend lots for is their second largest account so i basically do whatever i want in Bunnings now and all the staff hate me. I think there might be one or two employees i haven't upset yet but i'll get them sorted over the next twelve months........ the guy who worked in the lumber drive through pickup area with a 'bad back' so he can't help me lift anything onto the ute has now been moved to the paint section.......... that was a "GET THE %$#@% MANAGER !" moment......... i'm going to get a 10L tin of paint just to check he's lifting stuff or it's gonna be on again.......

I'm not putting up with the ridiculous garbage that passes for service and common sense in stores these days without a fight - rant over :spin3:

Where were we......

I cut the sheet to fit and siliconed it to the front of the 6mm glass overflow wall, i'll use black silicon to seal all the edges tomorrow and that's about all that needs doing to the tank. I'll razor the silicon back flush on the two front corners where they're finger wiped by the builder - forgot to tell him to leave the bead untouched. I use Bostik V2 architectural grade acetic cure silicone in case anyone wonders.

*** Remember to always cut acrylic a bit smaller than you need to fit, it absorbs water and swells slightly so don't make anything a super tight fit.

Nice work Biggles. Does the overflow have teeth? Or is it just a slim gap overflow so snails don't go through?

Looks like Mr Burns approves of your work too.
