A Splash of Color - My SPS Peninsula Reef

Definitely tagging along to this one...can't wait to see the end result biggles!! Just went through a 3 week makeover with my tank. Well worth the effort don't give up...and keep posting pics!!

Glad you are doing better, like others I'm looking forward to seeing what you will do with all this new space you've got. It looks like your corals did well through the transfer.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys :) I have a kidney playing up for no apparent reason, not a bad back - if i had a bad back i'd be working in the loading dept at Bunnings........ at least Bunnings give me good metal pens unlike the rep from Masters (US joke hardware chain) who tried to give me eco friendly pencils and get this - A RECYCLED CARDBOARD WORK DIARY.

Bunnings Trade -

give me soft drinks and coffees
metal pens and non poo stained diaries
blow up toy hammers etc that amuse me no end
$680- nail gun for $150-

Masters -

mineral water only - basically water that's dirty

If you need something to get oil off an albatross i'm sure Masters can help you out but i'm not convinced yet as to their suitability for hardware - time will tell how the staff handle the retraining that's coming up.......

Anyway back to reefing.

It's still a work in progress but these are the two islands i've almost finished. I want a lot of open sand as you can see. The middle is right above the chalice i decided to turn into a stag rock, another work in progress. The water is murky because i added 20 lbs sand about an hour before taking the pics.

I love where you are going with the design so far Biggles, I'll bet the flow over and around those islands is pretty good! Your colors, as allways, are spectacular!

Looks so good Biggles! It's great how you've kept all your colors. This will be really fun to watch grow out. Great work

Looking great Biggles. Loving the colours screaming outta those corals.

Thanks Sahin, the method i used to transfer the acros minimized the impact on their overall health i think. :)

Thanks mate, the flow between the islands is indeed very good to the point of blowing sand away lol.

Beautiful tank, I like very much this lay-out"¦..well done

Thanks very much mate, still have a long way to go before the scape is finished though.

Hi mate, i wanted to allow plenty of room for my acros to grow this time rather than jamming frags tightly with no care for the consequences :spin3:

looks wicked mate.

Thanks Ryan :)

Reminds me of Yano's aquascape, very nice man!

Thanks mate, negative space is a good thing just so long as the positive space is filled with color lol.

A different angle

I've started turning the arch rock piece from the old display into the third of four main islands planned - i've run out of nice rock pieces and acros...........

Biggles I love your use of negative space and how this will grow out to look like. Should be your best aquascape yet .

Very nice colors are amazing

Thanks Dan, most of the acros are starting to brighten back up and another month should see everything really booming again color wise.

Simply stunning mate! You've become my No. 1 inspiration for sps tanks now :)

Thanks mate, that's a very nice thing to read :)

Do you have any plans of purchasing anymore fish? If so, what type? By the way, tank looks great!

Marty

I want a lot more fish Marty. Copperband, Purple Tang, more Anthias and wrasses......... and two more cleaner shrimp and a blood shrimp..........:twitch:

Biggles I love your use of negative space and how this will grow out to look like. Should be your best aquascape yet .

Thanks Justin, i'm doing my best to not crowd things as i usually do lol.

Biggles, are you using Radium and t5 in this tank? if yes what?

Yes i have a 400W and 250W Radium along with 5 x 39W T5's, 3 x 24W T5's and a 81W blue/410nm light bar. The 250 will be swapped out for another 400W unit when funds permit, another triple 24W light unit is going on and another LED bar the same specs will be added. I didn't do anything to the colors in this pic, just cropped and resized so you can see how the lighting is atm. I'm going to make a start on a new hood soon so i can set up the lights properly but i have the 250W bulb 4" closer to the water than the 400W so the PAR is closer to even. I use pics of my tank for my PAR meter, simply adjusting the exposure up and down in any image program such as PS shows you where dark and brightly illuminated spots are - i'm too tight to buy a PAR meter thingy. :D

Left of the yellow tang is the 250W and right is the 400W, i turned the LED bar off as i usually do to take pics. I run blue plus and coral plus ATI tubes btw.

I run 2 x B+ and one C+ in each triple unit and one of each in the double 39W unit.

I use live rock, skimmer and a cup of carbon and a cup of phos-zorb in mesh bags in high flow in the sump. I don't use any additives other than fish food.

You forgot one important thing: a lot of light :twitch:
