I haven't tried it but I'm thinking about putting a valve on the drain and try this madness on my tank. It all makes sense and would work pretty good on my tank as I use biopellets.

Skimmer sucks up the remains pretty quick so it's clean waters in the morning.

Wait until you see the fish react to me dumping in two mysis cubes, flake and mini pellets all mixed together in a jar of tank water lol...........

yes I agree. Fantastic macro work. I think you need a nice macro lens on your DSLR along with a sturdy tripod I think!

How deep is your tank and are you running 250's or 400's? Have you given any though to applying your creative talents to the multitude of power heads you have?

The actual water depth is 17" in the display and i have a 400W over the right end and a 250W over the left or overflow end. I need to get another 400W ballast and another reflector as the 250W is just temporary and not powerful enough to cover the 32" spread with adequate PUR.
I hate the power heads as i want a true peninsula with pumps only on the overflow back wall. I'm going to concentrate on upgrading equipment from now on rather than spending all my play money on fish and acros lol. I need a gyre and i just ordered a WP-60 to test out. If it can hit the 5ft far end i should be able to remove one or two pumps at least. The flow in my peninsula is a much bigger challenge than keeping the acros happy :twitch:

I'm loving the scape you are developing with the stags surrounded by the more massive and plating corals.
That last macro is stunning with the contrasting body and polyp colors.
Crazy... But they are all fantastically good. The lepto (I think it's a lepto-the orange clumpy one) is also a superb capture. These are not done with a simple macro lens, are they??
I was thinking that sand may never make it into your reef but then I realized that you would never leave the bases of your scape creations exposed.
Now, what I really want to see is what is going on, on top of your tank!

All the macros were taken with my iphone 4S phone, i don't own a camera and never will because i need all my money for SPS stuff ! If i had a spare grand i'd get another tank and put a real acro dragon in it lol.
I will never ever ever not have sand in my display Matt, i'm just trying to get the circulation sorted first. Do you want to see my lighting setup mate ?

So how many people are trying the "skimmate dosing" deal at night now?

If there's one thing a skimmer is great at removing it's skimmate. :thumbsup:

Watch the 'catcher's mitt' polyp lower right take a fastball mysis pulp catch - your out !

Thanks buddy, i feed the fish mini pellets, flake, frozen mysis and nori every day. They get about twice as much food volume as you saw in the video but spread out over the day.

How, often do you feed your tank this combo?

Every time i want to make a gratuitous reef video mate.

I want to try one gyre high on the overflow horizontally and some big streams lower and wider spread. I really don't want any pumps on the three viewing sides so i'll have to see how things go. :thumbsup:

It definitely does have to be fun! I can see the difference in bulbs now you mention their locations, do you have the same t5s next to each bulb? Either way I love the looks so seeing your tank like this really helps me feel confident about moving away from my lovely LED's lol

The 150 was the one i had in mind for the job mate I saw your thread about your new lighting and honestly think 3 x 250W will be plenty as long as you run those T5's. I could have gone with 3 x 250W Radiums over this tank no probs but since i pay $150- a bulb from the US i went with 2 x 400W and will run them higher to get the same result. If you were going to go low on the scape like i have i'd suggest 3 x 400W or 4 x 250's.

These acros are 20" diagonally from the 250W bulb and 14" under the water - far left in the FTS pic, i try to correct my phone pics as best i can but don't always get it right lol.

In that pic i had 2 x 39W blue plus on in front of the right end (400W) and a coral plus and blue plus 24W in front of the 250W. I have the light overlap area in the gap between the far left rock and the middle one. You have two of the acros in the pic above - just so you know what they look like under your new lighting. Coral plus and blue plus make good supp T5 bulbs with the Radiums.
