Crazy colours right there Andrew.
I have moved my ssc to the location as per your suggestion. Hopefully it will be speedy recovery.
Pending on removing some lps corals, some new sps corals will replace them.
Thanks Kevin, swapping out some flubber for more SPS is always a good idea.
That tank is a PIECE OF ART !!!
Thanks Daniel but it's got a lot of growing to do before it looks good
From one springless chicken to another BRAVO Etching the bottom of the cut is a great idea  Looks great
Thanks Mike, i've done a lot of tiling over the years so it just made sense to roughen the surface a bit.
love the step-by-step photo...
Thanks Shih.
Andrew, there seems to be a lot of flubber making its way into your tank these days. If you carry on like that I'm thinking you will need to move your thread to the LPS forum. We don't need that kind of stuff around here. If you're going to have flubber like that, at least don't take so many embarrassing photos of it.
Hey, what's the purple/pink piece in the bottom left of this pic?
Hey Mindy, flubber is insidious stuff and hitchhikes in on acros sometimes.....
I'm pretty sure that's a little A. gemmifera colony i got about a year ago from memory.
Nicely laid out tutorial Andrew! You are using standard aquarium epoxy, correct? Does it make your skimmer go bananas when you put the epoxy in your tank?
I tend to use the "Corafix Pro" glue, only available in the big 50 dollar bottles. It's way thicker than even the regular Corafix, which lets me build up a thick pad of the stuff on the coral base. I then rub or twist the coral base on the target location until the glue coats both surfaces. That sticks it very secure. The epoxy idea would help with larger pieces though, better contact and a more stable base.
Thanks Matt, i use selleys aqua kneedit putty from the hardware store but i've used a few reef ones and they're all the same pretty much. The skimmer will foam if you don't mix the putties very well and or use more than about 1/3 of the tube in a single session. I never see a reaction if i just use 1/2" of putty and some super glue on a couple of frags.
Your method sounds fine to me, it's the rubbing around and grinding of the glue against the rocks that makes all the difference to how effectively just super glue gel alone works for attaching pieces.
Hi Andrew,
I like your illustration, which is very educational. Your new corals are exquisite.
What are your latest NO3 and PO4 readings?
Thanks Bulent, i tested them this morning for you mate.
Nitate - 5
Phos - 0.02
Andrew, you're one gifted reef wrangling artist!
Looking sooo good!
Also curious about n and p..
Getting there Matt, getting there mate.......
I use Salifert for nitrate as it's idiot proof and great for low reading monitoring with the side view technique.
Sahin put me onto the Elos phos test and i have to say it's very easy to use and sliding the vials along the color dot card makes level checking easy and accurate. He did fail to put the high res bit in bold letters in his journal post - i ordered the standard phos test and had to email the store to change it to high res after Sahin finally mentioned it again - once he knew i'd ordered the wrong one of course...........:hammer:
On the left of the box is the 3D printed robot i'm guessing Sahin has made to push the test vials along the color card, it'll make a good companion for the magnetic alk test stirrer that saved him from the physically taxing job of giving the glass vial a quick shake............
ALWAYS calibrate your refractometer with a standard solution. If i use RO it shows my correct salinity of 1.0260 as 1.0230 - if i then took corrective action based on the incorrectly calibrated refractometer i would raise the salinity to 1.0290 thinking i was raising it to 1.0260. With RO on the glass my correctly calibrated meter shows minus 0.0030
Nice work buddy!
I've been using the biggles glue/putty/glue method for awhile now and it works great! I even picked up the same bit for my dremmel. Although I haven't got around to testing it yet. But it all works great and my corals are staying in place now
The selection and size of the pieces you have access to is incredible. The tank looks good. I can't wait until the pieces grow in and are reaching up into all that open water space above! I'm looking forward to the upcoming tree as well. This one looks like it could be a goodie!
When you have a minute, check out my latest updates. I think I've finally made it to qualify as a true mixed reef since I have a lot more SPS now then ever before! Not quite to the extent you have going on over there though. Maybe one day...
Thanks Troub, the glue putty thing isn't my idea. I read about it on someone's journal here a few years back and never looked back.
Make sure you test the diamond wheel on a few bit of rubble so you get a feel for how it cuts before you take to an acro. The quality of acros has gone through the roof in the last couple of months thanks to Dave at my LFS.
I will check out your journal buddy but right now i'm making a pic tutorial on modding the jebao dosing unit to prevent any possibility of overdosing which seems to be a very real problem from the number of negative reviews i've read :reading:
