A Splash of Color

I'm glad you lot found that equipment tutorial informative, the next one will be how to assemble the jebao ATO unit. I'm guessing that since so many of you didn't even know about the hose installation required with the dosing units most of you have probably gone off half arsed and made a mess of assembling the electronic top up units that jebao make.

I have degrees in both Lego & Meccano and have been zapped by 240V at least ten times so i'm pretty sure i've built up a tolerance to electric shocks much like bee keepers do. In other words, don't try this stuff at home - leave it to the experts (me). :reading:

Andrew what kind of doser you advise me to take?

I would seek the counsel of those with practical experience mate. Since alk is far and away the most important and potentially lethal chemical we add to the tank daily i would urge you to buy one that is reliable & trustworthy ;)

Where did you get the calibration fluid from?? Also Dave gave me a little sneak preview of the lovely pink bits you're getting, holy moley they're sweet :D

I got the fluid on ebay Dom, think it was from the US.

I am going to share the little prank you and Dave played on old biggles at the LFS today with the 'sweet pink bits'............ if you two hear what sounds like thunder in the distance........ it's the sound of biggles vengeance approaching...........:angryfire:

I don't get it - whats with the refractometer?
Isn't RO water with 0 tds good enough to calibrate it? Must I buy a special liquid for it?

Have a read of this link Kevin, if you used RO i'd bet that your keeping your salinity lower than you think. It's worth checking imo.

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1963296

btw the best way for checking salinity is a digital refractometer"¦.IMO

Send it over to me and i'll do a tutorial on how to mod a digital refractometer

Andrew what kind of reliable and trustworthy doser?...maybe acquamedic?
A question for you: How do you think I could increase my NO3.....maybe adding NaNO3 solution?
P.S.: I've NO3 0,02 and PO4 0,046...tested byFauna Marin labs

Get a bottle of the seachem flourish nitrogen, same one Matt uses. :)

I actually asked Dave what the bleep is that crazy colored pink acro...............

After he and Mark stopped laughing (at my expense) Dave informed me that it was a plastic fake..............

'Did Dom know about the fake pink acro ?'

'Oh yeah i told him it was fake'.

A storm is coming boys................:mad2:

This is what fresh collected primo quality wild SSC actually looks like in person.

Before anyone asks, all the fresh acros were $55- each.

 Thanks for the laughs Andrew. I'm sure the owner of Jebao is going to be very happy about your informative doser tutorial.

Send those little motors to me...I'm sure I could rig up some sort of little Jebao motor car for my son to play with.

That Pink acro is just heavenly. My buddy is setting up a shop in the UK; he can sort out CITES; send it to me! :eek1:

One mans garbage is another mans treasure...... Did ya hear about the $6K mushroom :lolspin: Crazy SSC pics Andrew, they're usually white as snow with just a hint of pink when they get here and about the same price as that flubber in your pic :celeb1:

Six grand for garbage !!! :headwally: I guess they go through a long period of darkness and stress Mike, these pieces are only in a box for a few hours and most have PE within 30 mins of being unbagged.
I did some research for you guys buying wild collected Aus acros btw. The acros i'm showing you come from the same collectors that send you guys yummy acros.
10-26 metres and the water is clear enough to make out the bottom at 26 metres. As long as the water conditions are calm enough, most of the acros you call 'deepwaters' are collected from 10 metres down.
Obviously different collectors may vary but i just wanted to give you an idea of where the acros i've been showing you are coming from.

Btw, Dave asked me when i was leaving if there was anything special i wanted him to chase for me - 'i want dragons Dave, pink, red, green, blue, i don't care what just get me some dragon acros. Oh and i want a white tailed bristletooth tang please'

Dave said he'd try his best - you bloody better Dave after that fake acro stunt !

So you're saying you'd steal my acros are ya Mike.............. :blown:

Next visit i will have lots of time and will take 50-100 pics - pics of everything Dave lets me photograph (everything cause i'm not asking him) :p

no it isn't fair to show us such beauties!!!!!!!!!! :headwalls:

It's for your own good mate :)

This acro is way prettier than the pic shows unfortunately. It really makes you wonder what goes through the collectors head when he brings up acros like the one behind the nice one............ looks like a frog that stepped on a land mine..........

i wouldn't even leave a note bud:p

What kills me is when Dave sticks garbage in with the acros. $350- for a red mini maxi whatever that is thing. I'd want a mega max maxi for $350-......... biggles verdict - what a joke !

Andrew watch out: these pic are extremely dangerous"¦.they can cause severe heart attack :blown:

Ha ! :p

It's time for bed so you can give your heart a rest.............. soon as i post a couple more :)

Btw, all these top downs were taken above water with the pumps off using the iphone6 and the no 2 amber filter made and sold in Aus - since it makes my acros look pretty good i'm putting a ban on any more overseas reefers purchasing from the company i will no longer be mentioning........ that is all.

The acros seem to be doing well despite the presence of LED's Dave insists on running with the T5's and halides..........:hammer:

I can't believe they would design a doser that sticks on. I may have to dump all my jaebo pumps on principle ... except I don't have any principles...

Love the pics Andrew, good thing I don't live down under because I'd be plotting ... something ...
