A squealing controller

Roger,

I have a tunze on a controller, but as it ramps the power up there is a high pitched squealing from the grey box (aluminium sided box that the controller plugs into). The tunze itself is the 6201.

Any ideas?

I have had to unplug it since it was really loud and somewhat scarey.

Paul.

yes....within the last week actually.

I have no idea why the controller would emit such a loud shriek....surely there isnt a speaker in there.....

There is an audible alarm built into it causing the noise which is "normal" when the electronics detect a problem. Since impeller and bearing behind it has been removed and cleaned I assume, Roger may have to look at it or might have another idea in the morning.

Yes, it has an alarm that goes off if the pump is jammed or damaged in anyway. The first thing to try is thoroughly clean the drive unit, being sure to get the bearing clean. There is a stickied thread in this forum on cleaning and the instructions are also in the manual.

Thanks Roger,

At first i thought it was the UPS it was plugged into...

I will strip it tonight and report back.

Paul.

Hi roger, I think you should receive the Tunze unit in the next day or so. it was shipped last week (wednesday, I believe).

Thanks,

paul.

Yes, send it in but be sure a letter is in the box with your return address and contact info.

Roger,

I received the unit back yesterday.....
I wanted to say thankyou for the extremely fast return and the now silent powerhead.

Paul.
