A. tricinctus

I know this isn't a Clownfish that is commonly available so experiences will be limited, but I'm considering picking up a couple from DFS. All I really know about them is where they're from, what anemones they naturally will host in, and that they reportedly don't ship well (though that's the case with a lot of wild clowns IME).

So, just looking for some personal experiences, espcially if you've gotten them from DFS. Also, do they seem to be any more or less aggressive than your average larger clowns?

I got one pair (two small juvi's) from them several months ago. No problems from shipping stress. Seem to host in just about anything (toadstools, bta, they tried green star polyps but I knew that wouldn't be a good thing). They are the only fish in the tanks so I can't say how they interact with other species, but at least they don't try to bite my hand like the tomatos or fire clowns.

Peter,

I have had a large female for a few years now and she is not aggressive at all. She is very skittish when anything comes into her tank or happens outside of it. I purchased her from a LFS in Chicago and she has been a good eater from the start.

Have been trying to get her a mate but have been unsucessful. I purchased one from DFS a couple weeks ago but it arrived in bad shape and died the next morning, I believe it got caught in wrinkle in the shipping bag. If you end up with an extra one let me know, I am in Appleton.

They are next to nigripies in terms of shipping. DOA or the next day. I would not go there. It is a waste of your money and time.

I got 2 from dfs about 2 years ago, one arrived with a swim bladder problem and died with in a week. The other one was fine. Both were about 1 inch in size. DFS credited my account and I ordered another one the next time they were in stock. The third one arrived fine and the bonded pretty quickly. Then the larger one became really aggressive after about a year together and killed the male. Now she is about 3.5 inches in size. She hosts btas without a problem and is not very aggressive with other fish. She even lets a flame angel try to host the bta which is really funny.

Since then I've tried pairing her with clarkii's and blue stripe juvi's but to no avail. About a month ago I ordered another Tri juvi (about 3/4 ") from dfs and that one arrived in perfect health and I'm about ready to place him in the main tank and see how she acts.

So I have ordered 4 and 3 arrived in perfect health. I have a friend that ordered a couple a month ago and his were in great shape too. I think they ship a lot better then Chrys' do. But I would not recommend ordering them unless you are prepared for a long QT.

Chrys are the whole new ball game. They ship OK, most of them just do not live to see day 4 in a qt tank.

I hear you there Marina. :( I absolutely love chrys but have been staying away from them since having some bad luck with them.

But damn I really like them :)

I got a large female tri that's hanging out with my cap in a 50g. She does occasionally nip at the smaller cap (1/3 her size) but they seem to get along pretty well most of the time. I've had the cap for a year now and the tri for a few months. I also got an angel in there and there has been no problems.
