A use for your sump you might not think of...

Say for some reason you have to move a large tank.
This is what I'm having to do---and in order to move it safely, I'm going to need to shut it down and drain it fairly far down, removing as much of the rock as I can because of the weight.

Use for the sump? I can put all the fish into the refugium chamber of the sump, and keep the skimmer running, pumping that water full of oxygen, so they'll be safe for the 8 hours we estimate it will take to remove the carpet and install new laminate flooring.

The tank itself is set up permanently on massive Teflon round glides, which will enable it to slide. Wish us good luck on this one. Sans water, sans much of the rock, sans massive 30 lb canopy, stand and tank should move fairly well. The fact that the sump is in the basement, not in the stand, will also be a help.

But I thought I'd toss this out as a how-to, because remembering that your sump can be a highly oxygenated refuge for a number of hours is easier than setting up the qt when space and time are at issue.

THank you. It's going to be interesting. The tank, including its shipping pallet, weighed 800 lbs empty, which it won't quite be. And we're going to waltz it from old carpet onto new laminate.
