Some more pictures from today. Dropped a tiny piece of mysis in to feed the CUC. Skimmer is starting to pull some skimmate. Tank is pretty much crystal clear.

Trying to decide if I want to dose 2 part or top off with kalk in my top off water to keep my Alk/PH up and do water changes to keep my Calcium and Mag. in line once I start adding corals. Open to ideas for this. Right now my Calcium and Magnesium are nice and high(no corals of course) but my PH and Alk are on the low side 7.8 and 6.4DKH respectively.

Just an update on the new tank.

Params are still looking good and I have added 2 fish. A yellow watchman goby last weekend and a scooter blenny this weekend.

Also added a small head of torch and a small frag of green and red zoas just to make sure they do alright before I start adding some higher end stuff.

It has been about a month since set up and i think I will do a 5 gallon water change tomorrow.

Params at noon today:

PH: 7.8
Salinity: 1.024
Temp: 78
Nitrate and Nitrite: both no trace on salifert kits
Calcium: 480
Alk: 2.3/6.4DKH trying to slowly work this up a bit....

Question: based on my setup, do you think I should dose 2 part, or top off with Kalk to keep my Alk up and do 15% water changes every 3 weeks or so.

What do you all think??

I'm a huge proponent of dosing 2 part. So much more control. If you need to raise ph use soda ash (baked baking soda) instead of baking soda or use a combo for your Alk additive.

I don't like the lack of precision with Kalk.

Here are some updated pictures from 9/6/13. Tank is a 30 Gallon Deep Blue Rimless. The rest of the equipment list can be seen in my signature or earlier in this thread. Thanks everyone!!

I bought the tank from a fellow reefer who won it in a raffle. They run around $300 with a stand brand new which IMO is a killer deal for a reef ready drilled set up with plumbing included! All I did was paint the back, grab a 10 gallon for a sump, return pump, skimmer, and lighting and I was ready to go! I don't even notice a difference on my power bill each month. A far cry from my old system which was around 300 gallons total volume and running over 1400watts of lighting. That cost me about $250/month to run. Here's a couple more pictures I took today:
