I just sent an email to the guys over at ABC Reefs to see if they could come close to the prices offered by Premium Aquatics on an Apex controller and a couple of Evo 1050s. They said they would match online prices!! With that said, why would I buy from anywhere else? My money is going to ABC Reefs from here on out if they can continue to come at least close on prices....I suggest everyone else support our LFS and do the same!!! I am so happy to fiinally have a decent LFS to visit and buy from :spin1:

ive been doing this with my lfs for several years. my philosophy has been if it was less than 10% more from lfs then i bought it there saves a lot of hassle with online oopses. also good to keep swp open i like hangin out there on tues and/or fri evenings with Joe and Tom.

I just left abc reefs.Tim had 2 orange hammer corals in one of the displays.I really wanted to get one for awhile now.I didn't trust an online purchase not being able to tell what it would really look like ,not to mention shipping problems.Tim is holding it for me ,really nice piece when seen in person.

For the price you cannot buy this coral anywhere cheaper IME.They have one left if anyone is interested I would jump on it.

I wish ABC would get some Bali liverock in. For the past three weeks or so they have had nothing but tank teardown base rock - very dense and devoid of any color or form. Keep being told they are going to place an order for Bali, but I guess they need to offload what they have first. I can't wait too much longer though, need to get some rock in my tank. ABC quoted me $9/lb for uncured Bali which is considerably higher than the online prices. But, that being said, I wouldn't mind paying that if the rock is excellent quality and to be able to hand pick the pieces I want. Tax in place of shipping cost. Online liverock quality is really suspect these days, buying sight unseen is just asking to be let down when it arrives. Every online offers hand picked - specifically per your request, I always found that load of crap kind of amusing. I wish the branching variety (Tonga?) was still commercially available or Marshal Island. Guess I'll pay another visit to ABC and see where they're at on existing liverock stock. So nice to finally have a quality shop in the area.

I would never ask my LFS to match or beat online prices. If they could, I'd be thrilled. I'm just looking for them to be competitive. As somebody else stated, if they could be within 10%, I wouldn't even think twice about buying from them. But, many times the price differential is ridiculous.

That said, I don't think I'll ever buy a fish mail-order. Coral? Maybe, but even then I prefer to buy my coral from the LFS as frags from all of you.

there is some branching tonga at CF in Rochester. bring your checkbook - $/pound doesn't sound bad till you realize how dense that rock is!
