Abnormal ??! Polyp extension

Greetings.

I have attemped to look for an explanation for the fact of most of my corals have an huge extension of polyps.

Friends visiting my aquarium also comments the same.

Is there any plausible explanation?

Here are two examples

#2 is an a. yongei, I think, and mine and its parent in another site both look like that. I don't know about the other one: it certainly looks happy and healthy.

do you use natural sea water?
i have pe like that; what you have to remember is different acros have different size polyps.

Those look like my corals. :D I have similar polyp extension when the lights are on. At night they reach out even farther. It's crazy. Some over 1/4 inch long. I have about 3700 gph of flow in my 90 gallon. Maybe that is why?

Hi!

Thanks for all the answers. Regarding you questions here it goes

do you use natural sea water?i have pe like that; what you have to remember is different acros have different size polyps.

I use NSW, and that's the only kind i'm using since the beggining of the aquarium. Regarding the diferent species of acropora and their polyp size, unfortunally here in Portugal they sell them always without a proper ID, and i don't have a reference book like the one from Veron to help me id them :p

Run Ozone?

Nops!

I don't think those have abnormal Polyp extension, I just think those corals just have larger polylps than other acros like the one I have in my pic.. I have gave frags of that coral to other people and they see the samething... That coral in your second pic typically looks like that in most tanks that I see it in..

I agree. It's not like the polyps are trying to Crawl Out of the skeleton because they're not happy :P

PE is a GOOD thing!

Ok!

I'm fully convinced :) Thanks to all for the answers.

Most of the corals in the tank also show off :) that kind of beahviour.

It's a 8 months tank mostly made of small frags i've been able to trade or buy from friends.

Hmmm your coral beauty is inhibiting your polyp expension? I was in denial about my flame....Guess hes getting moved to the smaller softie tank!

Yeah, I was in denial about the coral beauty too, until I caught him ripping the flesh off of one coral.

I think catching him is going to be impossible. I also need to catch a bi-dottyback!
