? about astrea snails

the guy at the fish store told me these would be fine in my tank as part of a clean up crew. i told him that i had read where if they fall on their back, they cannot "right" themselves. he said no, that's a different snail. i think he lied to me.

i've flipped one of them over a couple of times. if i leave him (her?) on its back, will it be able to eventually right itself?

He was wrong. Astrea snails cannot right themselves. They do an ok job as part of a cleanup crew but they aren't worth the maintenance of always having to check on them IMO.

He lied to you. Try banded trochus if you can get them.

thanks. they didn't have a huge selection of anything but i expect they'll be stocking for x-mas. i'll see if i can take these back and get the others. i don't relish the idea of going there now with everybody and their brother shopping. i'm gonna have to let him know i am unhappy with his advice.
