Hello guys,

i need some advice about LED lightining.
How many Watts/litres are you using in your reefs?

And about the LEDs maintance, do i need to change the LEDs periodically as i do with T5 bulbs?

Thanks a lot.

Just like with all other lighting types, it really depends on the depth of your tank and what you are keeping. I've had Red Sea Xenia and some LPS corals thrive under 12watts of LED in a 10" deep refugium, but if you are lighting a 90 gallon tank with a lot of stony corals, you're going to need at least couple photon cannon-type LED bulbs to equal the output of a 250W MH. They cost nearly the same as MH fixtures but last 10 times longer and use far less power, so the savings comes over time.

I had a total of 80 watts on my 72. 20 460, 20 435, and 40 white. I never had an outbreak with algae. The life on the lights were something like like 25,000 hours. I love them on the tank, mainly had lps and softies in there though.
