About to throw in the towel.

I'm going to my dentist next Friday I'll ask him about the teeth falling out. I'll bet you think all the distilled water I drank while I was underway for 6 months in the Navy made my teeth fall out too. Oh wait, I still have my teeth. :(

Distilled and Deionized are the same?

Distilled and Deionized are the same?

No not exactly the same. Deionized physically removes the contaminates, while distilled boils the water off and leaves the contaminates behind. Either way, you're getting the really pure water that is claimed to make your teeth fall out due to being too pure.

So I got around to asking my dentist today. His response?

Laughter, no seriously, he laughed pretty hard.

He said he'd try to research it a bit just in case, but he'd never, ever heard that claim before :)

I never heard of teeth falling out, that's for sure.

Why would any WANT to drink DI water? It doesn't taste right.

We find that nearly everyone who claims to think it tastes fine are using systems that run the DI water through carbon. Guess what - its not DI water after it goes through carbon! There were (are?) plenty of cut-rate mis-configured RODI systems on ebay like this.

tagging along, me and my family drink ro/di water. We asked the dr about it last week and he said it was fine

The Truth About Reverse Osmosis - Is it Safe to Drink the Water?
just found this article on another site

come on guys. It's water. There are many more things we put in our bodies (including the air around here) that will harm you a LOT faster than filtered water.

I have flooded my basement soo many times - i cannot go to bed now without worrying about whether or not i have water running. Thankfully my basement isn't finished so the water is easy to clean up.

Someday I'll get a float switch! :worried:

Thanks everyone. I am just very frustrated right now.

Cleaning up the mess I am now thinking it couldn't have been running for the 24 hours since I made water change water. I only got about a vacumme worth of water and with 3 fans blowing I am already seeing some spots dry. Everything is in the basement...tank, barrel so it could have been worse.

I might take the advice on shortening my light cycle a little. I am running actinics 12 hrs and fulls for 5 hrs. I can't do a reverse cycle as the cats sleep down in the room at night and they would go bonkers with the light on.

Yeah keep thje chin.. You just got some new fish!!!

I priced how much it would cost to have a tooth pulled and got around$300
so it would be cheaper to drink the water:bounce1:

But about your problems, I can say with all humility it will get better:celeb2:

We came to within 2 hours of foreclosure because my husband got really sick and was out of work for 2 years.

Well, this is an older post that was dragged up from the depths. I have since gotten a tax return and a good amount of work and paid some credit cards off. The tank sat fallow for 2-2 1/2 months and is now FOWLR. Everything is now happy and I am working on a failsafe system for RO/DI water that will drain if it overfills.

I figured out that the float switch got stuck in its down position as it filled and overflowed. It hangs past vertical when emptied below and locked on it's inside hang (if that makes sense to you). I am also going to get some fishing line and make a string harness so it cannot do that again as it wouldn't be able to hang all the way down.

Out of chaos comes order. I am back on track. =)
