Abrotanoidas colony for free, Im in dire need of info!!

Hey guys

My father went to one of our LFS yesterday, and ended up bringing home a browned colony of acropora abrotanoidas. Im feeling my doubts because i asked him to go for a couple frags to do an exploratory run of SPS, I wasn't sure if I could even try acro, so his instructions were to get some cheap digi and monti frags...... well it didn't happen.

Does anyone have experience with this type of acro, and with a browned out piece? anyone know where to place it? it'll be in my mixed reef with leathers and some lps, is that not ok, should i put it in my 28? My tanks lights for my 250 is an Ai Sol, then 2 Hydras, and the last sol, should i place them under the Hydras? The lights are 6" from water.

Also, it hasn't opened any polyps, how long should i expect to wait?

Very tough one! Not a good first acro...High light, high flow, but acclimate it as you don't know what its used to at the LFS. Other than that, give it stability of all parameters most of all.

That's exactly what I said when I saw it in the box, it was just supposed to be an exploratory run!!!

All my parameter are in check, except for phosphates,last week, but they have been being reduced by fauna marin ultra phos 0.04 all before I put the pieces in. last time I checked they were almost unreadable on my API test.

I hope it lives, I just feel bad to see pieces die, it's just a waste.

BTW, what does it mean when it's tagged? Does it mean cultured in the ocean, or sustainable wild caught??? Just have no idea.

Usually a tag means its been maricultured. A tiny piece grown into a sellable colony in the ocean, specifically for sale.

Good, so I won't feel AS bad lol.

I'm using leds and using acclimation setting to slowly bring up the light, I have him about 6" from top and lights are 6" from water so it should be good if parameters stay good

I have had one for over a year it is in a high light high flow area, 6 inches under a 250 20k. One of the most difficult coral for me to keep. I currently have a small maricultured piece I got from DD (was on sale). It was all brown when I got it. It had bleached on shaded areas and turning green the tips. This one is not looking good.

I've had one for about 18 months now. Mine is in a high flow area right under a 250 watt halide. So far so good
