Just looking for an id on this guy

Thanks

id also like a positive ID on it too...
i have this acan too but was leaning towards hemprichii or hillae...
hemprichii5.jpg

i initially thought it was echinata so i put it with my echinatas and they started to fight each other... i seperated em just in time to avoid any major damage... and it once fell on one of my lords and the lord was definitly loosing... so its stronger than lords...
but yeah i was thinking hemprichii cause it kind of looks like one of the pics on the coral search page...
http://whelk.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/html/501-600/Species pages/511.htm
im not sure bout bowerbankii tho cause the ones ive seen tend to have bigger and kind of oval-ish thick polyps... but i could be wrong... there has been a surge of bowerbankii's being shipped in, in the past few months tho...
but if any of you acan experts can positivly ID it id appreciate it too...

I would say Acan Echinata.

Brad

Your coral looks too fleshy to be a Hemprichi. I would say echinata or subechinata too.

i dunno... like i said in my post i initially ID'd it as echinata too...
but ive been sucessfully keeping echinata's and subechinatas close together even touching... when i put this one right in the middle of my echinatas all the echinatas sent out their stingers and this one sent out its stingers as well... there was just cobwebs between em all...

i wont rule out echinata or subechinata since makoj ID'd it as that... and since that was also my inital ID as well... but are there any second opinions???

Is there a piece of the coral that has the skeleton exposed that you could photo for us? It would help loads. If you could turn off the actinics in any subsequent photo it might help too.

makoJ I have a similar one and it was labeled as a acanthastrea hemprichii when I bought it a couple years ago. I still believe it to be a hemp in comparison with others alike.

The ishi on my website that ikuwaseven is referring to has much smaller heads and grows different then the hemprichii. When comparing the 2 side by side you can see the difference.

Make sure you keep it low in the tank, they can shift colors if blasted with light.

Ciao, Jen=)
