yep, I did....and this image got my attention:
however, while the mantle does seem to flatten out and show some considerable size, it's still small compared to the size that Veron describes a. maxima as. Also...the exposed feeding tentacles are of a size that is very familiar if you've kept lordhowensis, scolymia, etc.....it's nothing especially noteworthy.
I would expect the feeding tentacles to be much more prominent and large in a. maxima, just as with lobophyllia. For what it's worth, a. maxima's closest relative is a. bowerbanki.....and on my a. bowerbanki, the feeders extend a helluva lot, especially at night.....the feeder tentacle extension sometimes overlaps the mantle to the point you can barely see the mantle itself.
There's a buddy of mine who has something almost
exactly like icy's coral (ie. icy's last two photos).....however, buddy believes it to be a. bowerbanki.....and for what it's worth, it looks almost identical in growth form to icy's pic. I'll try and get permission to post it here.
but im sticking with my assertion - that it's not a. maxima.....as for what it is it, i can make a guess, but it's just a guess. But don't let me ruin the day......if you guys think what you have or what your friend has is a. maxima, then go right ahead with that belief, doesn't make a whack of difference to me
