Acan/Micromussa no sweeper tentacles

uploadfromtaptalk1413683561048.jpgNot sure if its an acan or micromussa or what type of brain coral it is. Ive had it for 2 weeks not and havent seen the tentacles come out day or night.

Water parameters are perfect just not sure why it does not want to eat.

Have you tried putting coral food in the tank like little fishies marine snow or kent microvert? I never fed mine anything big enough to see if they would take it but always saw a feeding response to food for filter feeders. You should see the tiny see through tentacles extend around the mouth within 20 minutes of putting food in the water.

True sweeper tentacles are longer, harder to see, and used more for fighting than eating. If there is no nearby competition you will never see them and that type of acan doesn't have any.

Some of the varieties of brain corals with bigger mouths and appetites use sweepers for feeding but I've never seen it myself. When you don't see them you wish you did and once you do see them you'll be wishing you didn't. Like if you have a coral that's angry attacking another one that's ten inches away.

These are acans and acans do not have sweeper tentacles. They have shorter feeding tentacles located around the mouth just inside the fleshy part of the coral. I can plainly see them in your photo. Sweeper tentacles in most corals are for defense and are stinging tentacles not feeding tentacles. Acans instead have the ability to unfold and protrude their stomachs and literally eat corals that come to close. Never put any type coral near an acan as they will eat most anything that comes near, except mushrooms will poison acans and burn them up
