Acan purchased at the ABC frag swap

I put it in the tank and it seems to be doing well, but I don't see any signs of growth. I am not even sure how they grow....do they split or do they create a new head?

They grow new heads fairly slowly. Usually around the bottom.

What type of acan? Some grow new polyps while others encrust.

They are a slower grower. If you feed them small bits of meaty food once a week and they will grow faster for you. They will grow new heads around the perimeter.

i fits an echinada type it will usually encrust and can also grow down off from the frag plug onto most surfaces but it will do it very slowly as it has to encrust which means it has to build its stony base .
if its a lord then it will sprout tiny heads from under the edges of the main larger polyps . they do not do well growing off the plug onto rocks etc . they also will somewhat snuff out the larger heads from time to time due to the tiny ones crowding them . acan lords grow in waves on thier structure and the do grow very slow.

I think you prlly got a lord. I also got one that was one large head with small ones all around it at the base. I think mine was a rainbow acan. Feed it and see all those little feeder tenticles reach out for more

yes , Brittany is probably correct as most acans that you will purchase are the lord type.what color or colors is it ? are there any stripes on it ?

yup thats a lord for sure and it will sprout polyps from that base . almost has the shape of an anemone lol !
