Acan Question

About 5 mos. ago I purchased some nice Aussie Acans. They stayed large and very happy for about 2-3 mos. Fairly suddenly they all stopped puffing up and have not since. They continue to grow and appear healthy with the exception that they hardly expand. I have hypothesized that they are not recieving enough nutrients in my mostly SPS tank. I have them at the bottom of my tankwhich has 2 250w MH. My other corals including zoas appear happy and healthy. What might be going on here?

If zoanthids are happy in the "low nutrient" environment, then LPS should be ok too. Do you target feed the LPS? If not, I would try some finely minced meaty foods when their feeding tentacles are out at night (mysis, Rod's Food, etc).

Have you ruled out Allelopathy? What is "upstream"? have you changed bulbs recently? LPS don't tend to inflate as large under brighter lighting. New lighting can sometimes require acclimation or simply patience as corals adjust.

I don't target feed. I will give that a try. It could be allelopathy..what can I do about that? I have the Acans in various places so I doubt it is an "upstream" issue. Acans shrunk before bulb change. I recnetly changed them with no change in acans. I just thought it strange the rather suddeness of all 5 varities of my acans shrinking at once yet seemingly appear healthy otherwise.
