Acans in the shade?

Hey all, just another little acan rant. So i got my 8th acan today (yes, all in a 9 gallon) and it was a really nice bright orange and yellow rainbow. The person i got it from says acans do best when placed in caves or areas with little light. I've had all of my acans out on the bottom because my light isn't that strong but should i do this with all of my acans? The only think i have noticed is that the reds have gotten lighter on some of them. I'll post some pictures, but i don't know how to post them so they are not an attachment. Any help with that would be appreciated as well. :) Top: the new acan in the shade. Middle: so called, "black acan". Bottom: the rest of the collection (minus the duncan).

I had mine sitting in the sand for a few weeks and they seemed to be doing well. I have an overhand area of rock work that is mostly shaded. I read that they do just find under low light so I put them at the edge of the shade. I figured they would grow under the ledge if they didn't mind the drop in light level.

So I can't say that they will handle shade, but I guess I'll find out.

depends on the acan.... some really colorful acans only exhibit their color in low light conditions.... after they get a good dose of light they just turn orange or red. So if you've got some rainbow acans, keep them in the shade. But otherwise, I wouldn't worry about them too much.
