I got this acanthastrea echinata recently. I'm wondering if it's healthy (you can see the skeleton under the flesh) and if the colour will brighten up or not.
When posting pictures that are hosted on another site just click the tab in the reply window that is a picture of a hill and a sun, then put the URL to your picture in the pop up box and it will display your picture in your post. LOL also need to reduce them a bit
Acan's do well in just about any lighting you can throw at them as long as the water parameters are good. What are your parameters?
Your nitrates and phosphates are a little high. Need to try to get >10 nitrates preferably around 5 and >.03 phosphates.
I've found with acans they don't like a lot of flow but flow isn't really that much of a factor nor is light. I do keep them on the sandbed and have some in lower light and others in higher light, they do well in both.
What salt mix do you use and how often and what size are your WC's?
FYI if you use a site like photobucket, there is a listing for forums. It also resizes them so they fit perfectly in a forum post.
Just like this....
And as others have said, acans do well in any light and flow(although they prefer low flow). I have several in my tank and they are in every lighting level and flow level. All are doing great and growing. As long as your water parameters are good, they do quite well in aquariums.

Thanks for the response.
Yes, I forgot to mention my alk. It is 8 - 8.5 dkh. I'm trying to get my nitrates under control. My phosphates have been lowered gradually and are currently stable in the range 0.04 - 0.06. I expect it will reduce further. I use Red Sea Coral Pro and make a 25% WC every month.
My acan is on the sandbed in a region of low flow and low light. I'm target feeding it and it's responding well. My acan is brownish in colour and I was hoping it would be orange. My question is will it remain the same colour that I got it as (shown in the pic) or can I expect it to become more orange?

Thanks for the suggestion Homer. I'll be sure to try it.
About my acan. As the picture shows there is very little orange in it. Can I expect it to change colour as it grows and fattens up or will it remain the same brown colour as in the pic you so kindly posted?
In my aquarium, acan lords struggle at higher levels of light.
For me, they do best in the bottom 1/3 of the tank for sure, even partially shaded. I've proven this to myself over & over with multiple specimens (a few of which paid with their lives for my education). This is in an 18" deep tank under T5 w ATI tubes. As they say, every tank is different.
