Acclimating 2nd Crocea

I just bought this crocea today and it doesn't seem happy no matter where I put him. I drip acclimated for 3+ hours. I put him in such a way that the bigger opening is higher than the smaller opening. He is sucking in water and blowing it out about 3 times every 3 minutes or so? Is this something I need to worry about?

drip acclimation:
i dont DA my clams. i place the bag in the tank for 15-20 min. then slit it about 3-4" and let it sink. after about 10-15 min. tear the bag and place it in desired spot. (never expose to air) ive done that for 10 years. ive recently read that drips are not recommended for clams, snail, and shrimp either. REEF-ON!!!

no DA huh? wow, news to me. My clam seems to be a little better, I see his foot? coming out of his backside to attach to the rock. His gaping seems to have slowed as well. Once every 4 min or so. His mantle is not fully extended, but he's only been in around 5 hours or so. Is everything I described normal? I don't remember being this worried about the first crocea I bought. Anyway, why is being exposed to air so bad?

I did not drip acclimate my clams either.

I filled each bag with a half cup of tank water, every fifteen minutes or so for roughly thirty minutes.

Once acclimated to my tank's water-

I then took out each clam, and placed at the bottom of the tank.

I do not suggest ever allowing the water from the bag back into your main system tank.

I agree with this, but how do you do this without exposing the clam to air? Seems like you either have to expose it to air, or let a small amount of the bag's water enter your tank.

I grabbed hold of the clam in the bag and put it into the tank.

There were never any mention of clams being exposed to air would be a bad thing in the instructions that I received from retailer.

Don't the clam farmers get clams to reproduce by exposing them to air for a couple of hours to induce stress? If we're only exposing them for a couple of seconds, what could be the problem?

hmmmm.....I would not let the water in the bag go into my display tank. You don't know what's in it....ick, velvet..etc...It's too risky.

I've never heard of anything about expose clams to air for couple seconds would do harm to them. I just let the bag submerge in my sump for 1/2 hr, then add small cup of tank water every 5 min. for a duration of 40 min. , then i just pull it out of the bag and place it in my tank. I've done the same for all 3 clams and they're all doing fine in my tank for 3 months.

I don't think being exposed to air is any big deal to them. Not that I'm any kind of expert though.
The one thing I do make sure of is to 'burp' the clam when placing it in the tank. Turn it over and around under the water to make sure any trapped air is allowed to escape.
Never, ever put LFS water in your tank!!

a air bubble traped inside a clam can kill the clam in just a few short day's, be sure to always burp your clams.
