I have a 90g reef and these are livin in it...

2 clowns
3 chromis
1 goby & pistol combo
flame angel
flame hawk
2 female square anthias
Banghaii cardinal

My wife wants some blue in the tank. I am nervous with a blue hippo in a 90g with the residents. So, I was talked into an Orange Tail Damsel. I have always been told stay away from damsels, other than clowns and chromis. Bit, I was told he'd be very cool in a 90g with no other blue damsel in the tank. I am acclimating him now and am vbery nervous to pull the trigger....help.

I'd strongly recommend qt'ing any fish prior to addition, especially if you already have a substantial fish load.

Damsels are a PITA to catch, and are very hit or miss, erring strongly on the side of miss, with regards to playing nice. You already have a decent fish load, so I personally wouldn't do it, but it is your tank and chance to take.

Good luck!

I don't think it will be as aggressive as some damsels. Your current fish should be fine since they have established territories but they will harass any new fish (or corals, or rock) that you add for a while. Be prepare to have it bite you or body slam you everytime you reach in the tank. They are small enough it isn't a big deal, but it will probably happen. I'm guessing you clowns already do that or will soon also.

Actually, the larger of the two clowns is a PITA. Very territorial and demanding. This damsel is going to be the last addition to the tank, fishwise.
Thanks for the advice...Ill put my helemt on when I go in!

the orange tail damsel is a beast. it will eventually be the bully of the tank even over the two clowns. i have two and am regretting it. any big fish u add in the future should be fine. anything smaller is fair game.

It is probably too late, but I am with Reefers Digest and wouldn't take the risk with adding the damsel (and I would quarantine first).

Did you do it?

I agree with the others to QT.

The fish will probably be fine with what you have now, but if you want to add more delicate/rare/hard to keep species, you probably won't want him in the tank. I wouldn't do it.
